Sky, Virgin, Freeview and now Freesat are the options to watch the new format of digital television broadcasts. It can all be a little confusing and with so many options available it can be overwhelming.
So what are the benefits in the latest format Freesat?
Just like Freeview it enable you to access digital television without a monthly subscription. The only time you have to pay is to buy the equipment.

What channels are included?

There is a massive selection available that will suit all viewing preferences. In total there are currently 140 channels, which include TV, and digital radio stations.

Here are some of the best channels:

Entertainment
BBC1 One, , BBC1 Two, BBC Three, BBC Four, ITV 1-4, E4, More 4, Channel 4, Five
News
BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera, Euro News, CNBC
Movie
Film 4, True Movies
Lifestyle
Food Network, Wedding TV, Showcase
Music
NME TV, Chartshow TV, The Vault
Kids
cBBC, cBeebies, CITV, POP

There are plenty more to choose form but the ones listed above are some of the more popular ones. On top of that you have access to plenty of high quality digital radios stations like 6 Music and absolute radio.

High Definition
On top of the standard channels Freesat also has the ability to receive high definition channels. This is something that previously you have had to pay a subscription for. With HD services available from both SKY and Virgin but you are likely to be paying around £30 a month for the privilege.

The high definition channels are
BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD

These HD channels will provide you plenty of entertainment in wonderful high definition that will justify buying that HD Ready TV after all!

What Equipment will I need?

This is the main downside to Freesat; you will need to make a considerable investment to get up and running. As not only do you need to purchase a receiver but you also need to have a satellite dish. However, if you have previously had a Sky dish installed at your property you can use this.

For the majority of us a professional installation company will need to be hired.
It is worth re-instating at this point that once you have paid for the installation that your viewing will be free of charge.

Anything else to note?
Ever been watching a show when they mention joining in by pressing the red button, well with Freesat you can now join in. Freesat offers a host of interactive services, aside for in programme entertainment offers service like, weather, sports scores, and alternative cameras for programmes like Wimbledon coverage.
