When you write your Wiknut article, Blog, (or indeed an article for any Internet site) you need to tag it well!
Tags equal views, and this is one thing every writer must keep in mind.
How Tags Work
Search engines use tags to find correct articles. More importantly once people have found a site they will use tags to view other similar articles on specific topics. When I opened my Takin article, I clicked on the tag word “animal” which opened a list of articles on Wikinut containing that tag word. As such I could browse a site for ages, just clicking tags and bouncing around, something some people do, especially those who are bored or doing research.
You might be thinking this sends people away from your site, but it might not be your page they started on, the tags bring people to your page.
Tips for Good Tags
You should always have at least six tags. Find your key words and tag the article with those. Some should be general, while others more specific.
In the link I wrote on a rare animal, the Takin, I tagged it with the general word “animal” as well as the specific word “Takin”. If I were writing on a more common animal, such as a dog, I would have loads more tags, including plurals, such as “dog, dogs, pet, pets...” and so forth.
Double check the spelling, a misspelled tag word is useless.
Never use tags that do not apply, if I write about hair sheep, I am not going to tag with “Brittney Spears”, unless I had a photo of her with a hair sheep (I currently own no such picture and have no plans for such).
You can also tag regarding the “Type” of article you are writing, a poem should be tagged with some topic words, as well as “poem, poetry”.
Cautions
I have seen people use too many words together as a tag. I suggest that no more than three or four words be used in any individual tag. For example on a link about keeping pet skunks, you might tag with “skunk, skunks, pet skunks, care of pet skunks, smelly pets”, but I would not suggest tagging with “how to care for a smelly pet skunk”, this would be a good title, but not a good tag.
The chances of somebody looking up a specific phrase are too small, and the chances of somebody finding your article by clicking another article with the same tag are almost nil.

Lots of great helpful advice on this page! Thanks. I always have a hard time deciding just how many tags is enough, some subjects I could use 20 and some I have a hard time coming up with 5.
