Five Q.u.i.c.k Steps to De-clutter

One of my book collections is entitled “Cut the Clutter and Stow the Stuff”. This book is edited by Lori Baird. I find it very helpful and very easy to follow. It suits me well because fixing my room is such a headache to me. I am so particular at fixing things but I am also aware that I am poor at it. I easily mess up with the things that I just fixed. When I scanned some of the first few pages, I laughed at myself. I was somehow guilty of what it says. Because of that, I was inspired to share some of the important things I have learned from this book. These are five easy steps to conquer your own clutter:

1. Quantify or make an inventory of your clutter. This activity is easy and sometimes fun. During the process, I discovered a lot of things that remind of some significant matters of my life. This way, I also found out that I have actually piled some things that are no longer of use, like an old box of my laptop and many others.

2. Unload what you don’t want and what you don’t need. After doing the inventory, I picked up things that are too old or that are kept untouched for quite a while already. There are things that I have kept for sentimental purposes. And I am sure that you also have your own collections. But I tell you there are times we need to let go of them. You might also consider selling them if they still look sell-able.

3. Isolate the rest into categories that make sense to you. As they say there must be a place for everything and everything must be in its proper place. Say, all the books should go together and all dresses should go together.

4. Contain everything with appropriate storage systems. Shelves, containers and cabinets might be of help on this matter. My favourite is the zip lock containers and the transparent microwavable plastic containers. I also put labels on them so that whenever I need them, I could easily have them.

5. Keep it up. After de-cluttering and cleaning the room, the next phase is maintaining its neatness. As I have said, I am poor of this matter. There are times when I simply love of make some mess. When I read books, I just leave them anywhere. One way to achieve a whole year round neatness of the room is by returning everything right after being used.
