Why are Wikinut Earnings Confusing?
Writers on Wikinut may be confused because when they check their statistics page it shows high views one day and low the next but the earnings do not necessarily follow the pattern of the number of views. Clearly this is confusing.
People assume that high views means high earnings, and low views mean lower earnings.
How Wikinut Determines Earnings
While Wikinut displays the number of views on a page these may not all be counted as legitimate views. In some cases people open an article and click off it too soon for it to count as a paying view, but it still is registered as a view.
Short views are useless, advertisers know that a short view is not enough for a person to even glance at their ads, let alone read it. Since it is the advertisers to ultimately pay Wikinut and Wikinut who in turn pays the writers, if a view is not long enough to be worth getting paid for - you simply are not paid.
Some Views are NOT Legitimate
Wikinut monitors where views are coming from.
There was a writer here who had thousands of views per article, but the majority of views came from a site where people were paid to click on long lists of articles - these are not legitimate views they are views designed to scam the advertisers, they are not potential customers, and as such none of the views from such sites are counted in terms of being paid.
How to Improve your Wikinut Earnings
You need to captivate readers to stay on your page longer.
A poorly written article will not hold readers.
Having at least one picture is good too - however I remind you that Google and Bing Images are NOT Safe to Use.
Use breaks between paragraphs to make your article more "readable".
Add 2-3 links to related articles thus keeping viewers on your pages.
Encourage comments - if a viewer has to take the time to make a comment, their view is longer and thus payment for that view is a sure thing. Controversial topics often get more comments.
Promote, Promote, Promote. Good tags mean more views, but do not expect people to find your article by random, the Internet is loaded with millions of articles if you want views on yours you must promote it, share it with friends or family, add it to Facebook, or Twitter.

Mark, thanks for clarifying some things about how Wikinut pays. I especially liked the part about sites there people were paid to click on long list of articles. That explains a lot of things to me on why some writers can get so many views over a short period of time.

This page has caused me some confusion. I had thought pay was based on ad clicks as opposed to views?

We are paid on legitimate clicks as well as views too.
False ad clicks are a huge problem for websites and people who engage in such activities of generating false ad clicks are not paid for them.

There is also another factor that most writers are not aware of. Many writing platforms are on Google's list of content mills. If your site is on that list Google will not show any article (no matter how good it is) on the first page of a search. Thank God Wikinut is not on that list. Also people are so tired of advertisements here in America and for the most part we try to do everything we can to avoid them. However, I still write in hopes that someday I may earn something or maybe I just write for my own enjoyment and my fans!! Gosh!! I so need to get a real job!!!
