Do you wonder how artists can make a face look sad, provoking, mysterious, jubilant, or hilarious? Facial emotions can be achieved through shading. But let's leave that first to the artists.
Materials Needed
Pencil
Paper
Ruler
Eraser
As for now, let's get down to the basics of drawing a face.
Drawing a face is not as difficult as you think. You can start by following these easy-to-follow steps. Don't worry about mistakes or erasures. Practice makes perfect.
After drawing the basic shapes, you may start working on the moods and emotions you want your artwork to depict.
Divisions
Draw an oblong shape to form the head. The top should be a little wider than the bottom. The bottom of the shape should reflect the jaw line.
Divide the face in half by drawing a horizontal line across it. This line (C to D) serves as the eye area. Divide the C to D line into five equal parts. The eyes fall on portions two and four.
Divide the lower half into three equal parts by drawing two horizontal lines across it. The immediate line (E to F) is where you will draw the nose.
The bottom line (G to H) is for the mouth area.
Tips
Eyes: Draw the eyebrow above the C to D line while the corneas and irises touch the line. Draw the lower eyelids below the line. The basic eye shape is made up of curved lines.
Nose: Draw the nose on the E to F line below the portion between the eyes. The bottom of the nose is often a little below the E to F line. The nose must be approximately the width of an eye. A nose shape usually comes from shading.
Cheekbones: The cheekbones usually sit on or above the E to F line.
Mouth: The lower lip usually touches the G to H line. The mouth is generally wider than the nose. The outer corners of the mouth are usually directly under the irises of the eyes. Have a little dip in the upper lip.
Ears: Draw the ears by aligning their upper parts with the center of the eye and the lower parts with the bottom of the nose. Draw the ears flat against the sides of the head.
