How to Fight Off Bathroom Mildew
Keeping the bathroom and shower mildew-free is quite a challenge to many people. Here are ways to remove mildew from your bathroom and simple solutions to keep them off. Good thing about it is that you don’t have to spend on expensive mold and mildew cleaning solutions if you follow these simple tips.
Fight Bathroom Mildew with These Simple Tips
The most basic of all is to clean your bathtub and shower area regularly. This will stop mildew growth in its tracks. A clean bathroom doesn’t contain stuff that mildew can thrive on, such as shampoo residue, soap scum, and body oils. Deprive mildew of the moisture it needs by leaving the shower doors or curtains open right after bathing or showering. Keep the bathroom door open to dry the room out.
Scrub the grout area well. When you clean the bathroom, give your tile grout a good scrubbing. A couple of times a week, before taking a shower, spray the problem areas with an all purpose cleaner or mildew-removing solution, or if you don’t have these, a liquid bleach solution will do. Take a few minutes to scrub the walls and rinse them. Make sure to keep your windows or ventilation open when you are working with these chemical solutions. Also, be careful not to spray on the bleach on fabrics in your bathroom.
To avoid mildew build-up on your shower curtains wash them every now and then with a load of towels. They’ll help scrub off the dirt. Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle to get that extra clean finish.
Now, if all the regular scrubbing is too much of a chore for you due to your busy schedule, you can still keep it clean longer by sealing it with car wax. Cleaning up will be quicker and easier, and you’ll only have to reapply the wax about once a year.
