Reddit and Webtoid are two similar sites, both use the same script, and function in very much the same fashion. Reddit is far better used, where as Webtoid is still in the growing phase. Both have a tendency to be misused by people trying to promote their sites, and this guide is written with the intention that readers will not become unwanted abusers on either site.

Getting Started

*Before we start I must also extend some thanks to my wife, whom has written other guides on marketing and helped on this one.

To begin you will want to get an account on either site, or both. At present this is a simple step and does not even require e-mail confirmation. Reddit recently took steps to reduce spammers with multiple accounts so does favor those who have confirmed their log in with e-mail.

At that point you will see the front page with several popular topics that day. Some of these will be of your interest, but some may not. You can customize your Reddit, or Webtoid, account. In fact I suggest this is the first thing you do.

Customizing

At the top of your screen there will be a tool bar of sorts. On the right you will see EDIT. This is where you want to click. Pages of subreddits, or subtoids will open and you can select those that interest you, while eliminating those that do not.

If the button shows – Frontpage, it means the subsection is already on your front page, click the button to remove it, or leave it to keep it. If the button shows + Frontpage, it is asking you if you want to see it, or not.

You can select as many topics as you like, and will find this makes your using experience better.

Preferences

Below the top tool bar you will see your user name, and an envelop (which will light up when you have messages or responses), you will have a button marked Preferences. You can review this and change settings as needed.

How they Work

Both Reddit and Webtoid work by users voting things up and voting things down. The more up votes, the higher it rises. On Reddit things can only reach the front page for 24 hours. This is how Webtoid will also work after it has more users making more submission.

Submissions made to their proper subreddit or subtoid do far better than those made to the general site, unless, of course, they are of general interest.

Reddit in particular uses a spam filter to guard against spam. Both sites also have moderators who can delete articles, and members. As well users have the ability to report things as spam and report users as spammers.

Both sites also give KARMA to their users, this becomes a guide to see who is a spammer and who is using the site as it is intended. Comment Karma in particular is key to showing if a person does more than just submit their own drivel.

What you Need to do

Before you submit your own sites, explore, read things that interest you, vote up, vote down (only vote down poor submissions, not submissions you do not agree with). Above all – make comments. You can vote other peoples comments up or down based on if you agree with them or not.

In general this will give you a good idea of what the people on both sites like. Then you are ready to make your own Submissions.

Submitting

Before you submit anything of your own, submit something else, a news bit that you found interesting, or an awesome picture you have uploaded (or found) on imgur.com or other site. Be sure to submit things in the appropriate Subreddit, or Subtoid for best results.

When you are ready to submit your own site, such as one from Wikinut.com do so carefully. Only submit your most excellent work, and be sure to submit it to the correct Subreddit or Subtoid. Do not submit more than one of your own things per day, and ideally NOT one every day. Mix in a few other things and build up your reputation for good submissions. At first the sites may limit your submissions to be sure you are legit.

While you wait to see how your submission does, again, spend time reading other submission, comments, and so forth, enjoy the sites rather than abuse them.

Links

You will find a link to REDDIT here.

You will find a ling to WEBTOID here.

Again the important thing to remember with using sites such as these, is to USE them, not abuse them.
