A look at the various factors involved in the argument of internet marketing verses traditional marketing.

The Battle Rages On

The argument over internet marketing verses traditional marketing has been going on for about a decade now. When internet marketing first started out a lot of shrewd marketers became very rich very quickly. These days the job is a lot harder and the competition is much bigger.

You can think of it as a Star Wars of advertising - internet marketing verses traditional marketing. As far back as the written word stretches marketing has been a part of lives mainly in the form of trade. Currency has changed over the centuries but trade has remained - how else are we to feed ourselves and our families?

When it comes to internet marketing verses traditional marketing one thing stands out and really separates the two - SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ). I find traditional marketing a lot more demographically based and centered towards behavior. I also find it a lot more costly - market research needs to be thoroughly carried out and this is not cheap. If you sign up for free to one of these online survey sites you will see that they pay about $0.50 - $0.80 for each completed survey. This can soon mount up.

With SEO the game changes quite a lot. Online marketers use search engines to their advantage to gain traffic to their websites - their websites house their products. There is a huge reduction in costs with internet marketing verses traditional marketing. The starting cost of online marketing is only a fraction of the thousands of £’s that Yellow Pages, television and radio ads cost.

These traditional forms of marketing cost a lot of money when compared to the free advert sites online. Even if you are using a PPC ( pay per click ) campaign it will probably work out cheaper than a Yellow Pages ad. The online ads will tend to have a longer shelf life to.

Analytics play a big part in my online marketing campaigns and is a very useful advantage when it comes to internet marketing verses traditional marketing. With traditional marketing you have no idea how successful your advertising or coverage is. With internet marketing you receive detailed demographics and stats regarding all your visitors.

The further I get into internet marketing the more I see a trend in people trusting the products more and more. I think this is mainly down to the fact that people like to compare reviews on products before buying - this is easily done with the use of any search engine.

Marketers will argue their own corner but for me the internet marketing verses traditional marketing battle is already won. While there will always be the more traditional marketers the amount of people who choose to do business online will increase by the day.
