Living Your Life According To God's Word
This article is one that the author looks and gives advice to those who seek The Lord and want to improve their Christian Walk.
LIVING YOUR LIFE ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD
This article is one that the author, who is now in his retirement years, takes a look at where so many Church people are in their Christian walk today and why. Soul winning seems to be last item on the church’s agenda while the acquisition of riches and things take center stage.
When I accepted Jesus Christ as my LORD and Savior, at the ripe old age of eleven, I was at the point of thinking that every one within the four walls of the sanctuary was an error free true born child of the kingdom. Boy, how mistaken I was at that time.
No, I am not saying this to slander God’s true born children because the Church of our LORD has a lot on it’s plate already to deal with. Things like Ignorance, hypocrisy, alcoholism, dishonesty, lying, fornication, pornography, adultery, unlawful divorces, lying, stealing, incest, drug abusers, child abusers, spouse abusers, homo- sexuality, lesbianism, bisexuals, are only just a few items on the list. I am referring to those who openly practice such things.
It is a fact that before we were convicted, converted and born from above, many of us could easily fall into one or more of the categories of sin just mentioned. There are also the gamblers, cheaters, backbiters, profanity users and the like who love to maintain their hypocritical and deceptive ways.
Since I have been in the church these last fifty three years now,(Praise God),I have come to realize, especially since I have been in retirement from being a pastor, but not from preaching and teaching God’s word, that there is a “New school of thought” that is different than the”Old school of thought.” In the “Old school” there was more Scripture read, practiced, memorized, prayers prayed, spiritual hymns and spiritual songs sung, Bible lessons were taught and sermons from the Bible preached. Most people were expected to obey and live by God’s word. Not so in the so-called “New school.”
The question I have concerning this is, Who founded this “New school?” I know the Old School has never gone out of business and it will continue.
In this so called “new school mentality" there are some very dangerous heresy and bad elements. You may have “hearers” of new school philosophical rhetoric and doers of the new school ideology, but not many “hearers and doers of the word of God.” In the Epistle of James it plainly commands us to, " Be ye doers and not hearers only.” These are words often quoted by some " new school" people. but not adhered to sincerely, When you read James 1:22(NIV), it says,”Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Personally though when you inspect the “fruit” of those who teach the gospel of the "new school theology" which is nothing more than the ”prosperity gospel” and check out how they live, it is not according to the written word of God.
This, I believe of course, is the result of the “prosperity” sermons offered by novice preachers today. In them you have words that tell you how to get rich and acquire things, but they carefully avoid such subjects as personal sin, repentance, conversion, Heaven, Hell, being born of the Spirit, Faith, and living to please God. They preach about obtaining the finer things of life, the things of the world, bigger cars, bigger homes, Jet planes. and more of everything. Nothing in moderation but more of the worldly and bigger things.
Today many church goers read books, pamphlets, articles and hear preachers who promise more wealth, bigger homes, better cars, more money in the bank account, & etc and send their hard earned dollars to them. But the penalty for those who reject the real gospel and Jesus Christ as personal LORD and Savior are being led straight to Hell. Subjects about People who continue to live in sin and lust after such things that are sinful are rarely touched.
A twenty-five or thirty minute sermon that focuses more on the politics and Civics of the day more than the morality and sin of the people are the topics most preached. Of course the second most preached subject has to do with “money and the acquisition of things.” It is no sin to own things and truly God blesses His people with the things they stand in need of. However, the priority of winning souls to Christ, making disciples of them, and living godly lives have taken a backseat in the Church. Our first priority is to "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness."
And all of the other things that we need are promised to be supplied.
There are people today who are being deceived by leaders who read a verse of Scripture and apply their own natural philosophy to it and never really preach the truth. Most of the time it is for personal reasons or for gain. Christ and Him crucified in many cases is hardly ever mentioned and heaven and hell is said occasionally.
Heaven, hell, and the burning Lake of fire, are words reserved for the pastor’s use when he gets angry at some particular member or when he can’t have it the way he wants things done. As long as he is taken good care of ( most pastors don’t suffer much for Christ’s sake anymore) the sheep can graze in any pasture they wish.
These are indeed terrible times. Times that try the souls of men. Times that are bringing this world to the edge of something that will rain upon us. This world cannot continue to slide downward in immorality and sin without bringing down the wrath of God. The business of the Church has never changed. Our business is the same as that of our Father’s. Carrying out the Great Commission and winning soul’s for Christ is our main agenda until Jesus returns for His Church. Many doubt his coming again because it has been nearly two thousand years since He left. This one thing you can be sure of, Jesus is coming again.
My friends, please remember this, “God is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting any one to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the LORD will come as a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat”- (2 Peter 3:9-12).
Today is the day of salvation. If you are not saved and want to be, God has a plan for your life. He has extended an invitation to you that only you can accept or reject. Jesus Christ is your answer for your soul’s salvation. In John 3:16 the Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever(you, me or anyone) believes in him(Jesus), should not perish but have everlasting life.” Why not accept Him today and get the peace you desperately need and salvation for your soul? Invite Jesus Christ into your heart today. Bow down to him and say, “Father, Please come into my heart and save. Forgive me of all my sins. I admit I am a lost sinner and I have done wrong. Please save me now. I come to you confessing my sin and I do believe that your Son Jesus died for me and is risen from the dead and lives forever more. I give you praise, the honor, and the glory. Thank you for accepting me as your child,” Now go to a Bible believing church and let them know that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Amen!
