Whenever I make bread, I am always shocked that so few ingredients can lead to something that tastes great. Here is a recipe from my great grandmother that seems to have withstood the test of time.

Home Made Bread

One of the things that I find I just love is the smell of freshly baked bread. My great grandmother was a widow who had 3 children to support. One of the ways in which she supported her family was preparing baked goods for her neighbors. This is her recipe that has been passed down to me. I hope you enjoy it, I sure do!

Ingredients

5 1/2 - 6 Cups Flour
3 Tbs Sugar
2 Tsp Salt
1 Tbs Yeast
2 Cups of Lukewarm Water
1/2 Cup Milk
3 Tbs melted butter

Instructions

1. Mix all the dry ingredients in one bowl except for 1 cup of flour
2. Mix the water, milk and butter together and add them to the dry ingredients
3. Mix all of this together to form a soft dough
4. Knead the dough on a floured board for 8-10 minutes adding the reserved flour as needed
5. Put the dough aside for 10 minutes and then seperate it into loaves.
6. Allow the bread to rise for 1 - 1 /2 hours.
7. Cook at 400 degres F for 20-25 min.
8. Enjoy

Final Word

My recommendation for this bread it to slice into it almost as soon as it comes out of the oven, slather on a generous portion of butter, and enjoy. I also find it makes great toast.

Cheers!
