Onion French Bread

This is great served with soup...try adding dried minced onion...thus creating more tasty loaves.

Ingredients

Prep: 25 min. + rising Bake: 20 min.

1 c. water (70 - 80 deg. F.)
1/2 c. dried minced onion
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 c. bread flour
2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
1 tbsp. cornmeal
1 egg yolk, beaten

Method

In bread machine pan, place 1st 6 ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5 min. of mixing; add 1 - 2 tbsp. water or flour if needed.)

When cycle is completed, turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Cover & let rest for 15 min. Divide dough in 1/2. Roll ea. portion into 15x10" rectangle. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting w/ long side; pinch seams to seal. Pinch ends to seal & tuck under.

Sprinkle cornmeal onto greased baking sheet. Place loaves on pan. Cover & let rise in warm place til doubled, about 30 min. Brush w/ egg yolk. Make 1/4" deep cuts 2" apart in ea. loaf. Bake @ 375 deg. F. for 20-25 min. or til golden brown. Remove from pan to wire rack.

Yield: 2 loaves (about 3/4 lbs. ea.).

Yummy! Anything with onions works for me. Onion soup, onion rings, onion biscuits and breads. Delicious! Great recipe!
