She will be producing incredible, inventive, unforgettable art for many more years to come, and we can be quite sure that this immensely talented young woman has a great deal more to offer us. I for one can hardly wait.
It takes an artist of rare vision to be as inventive and imaginative as the awesomely talented Cecelia Webber, who creates, after many hours of painstaking work, absolutely stunning images, of flowers and butterflies which are not at all what they first appear to be.
Born in New England, in a forest town with a population of 1,500 people, this artistic girl spent a great deal of childhood time enjoying the natural world outdoors in the Dublin woods, catching orange salamanders for fun. As a shy and socially awkward child, she loved to read, often taking hours outdoors, in search of, as she tells it, small fairy creatures in abandoned maple sugar huts and dilapidated stonewalls, though she never found any.
Growing older, she came to realize that the world was indeed stranger than she had ever imagined. She was at a loss to understand why people are, in Western cultures, made to feel so ashamed of the human body, herself finding this biological structure to be a beautiful, wonderful thing, worthy of nothing less than being celebrated in as many ways as possible
Continually thinking, and bearing her feeling for the human body very much in mind, Cecelia somehow came up with the notion that that nature could indeed provide a platform that would allow her to fulfill her basic wishes, celebrating the beauty of nature in natural form, using it to create a different image. An excellent photographer, she created a digital image of a flower, but composed entirely from naked human body photographs, shopped until they fitted her vision.
Her journey as a professional artist was underway, then, Cecelia expanding on her flower series of incredible images, as well as creating stunning images of butterflies, and finding time to create both modernist and impressionist paintings of real quality, perform sexy dances in her own music videos, try her hand at experimental film-making and create an existentialist webcomic, in the artistic frenzy that is the life of this amazing young woman.
Now based in Los Angeles, California, Cecelia’s awesome work features not only in the Italian edition of Vanity Fair this month, but also in the Mexican edition of Elle magazine, so her wonderful work has definitely started to catch public attention in a big way, She says of the city she lives in that it conjures a disconnected spatter of very connected ideas, from isolation and car culture to ageism and exclusivity.
The 25 year old Cecilia takes pictures of naked people, afterwards spending countless hours transforming these, into the awesome creations we see here, on her computer. All her nude models are carefully posed, necessary for creating the shapes the artist has envisaged, before Cecelia digitally cuts, rotates and colors each image, so that bodies and limbs combine in creatingthe wondrous finished pictures.
A typical piece of her work, selling for up to £500, may feature a human arm as a flower stem, a several legs the petals and a hand as the seed, the pictures featuring flowers such as
blue bells, dandelions, cherry blossom and many others, in amazingly realistic fashion, though t can take two months for each image, when photographing and editing are considered.
Her work is truly stunning, and since she has only recently begun her artistic journey through life, the chances are that she will be producing incredible, inventive, unforgettable art for many more years to come, and we can be quite sure that this immensely talented young woman has a great deal more to offer us. I for one can hardly wait.
