South Korea is a hot bed for controversy as the realization that Dog farms and slaughter houses exist and the consumption of dog meat is largely accepted and practiced. Should it be illegal to keep the animals in poor conditions and slaughter them just for consumption.

Man's best friend. Another's lunch.

Do you have a dog or know someone who does? Now imagine your pet being caged in poor conditions and eventually slaughtered so someone can have it as a meal. I cherish my dog as a part of my family and I can not fathom his demise just to feed someone. Some places around the world see dogs and cats in another light. They see them as yummy food and in most cases they have no second thoughts of this practice.

Dog farms and slaughter houses

They exist that's a fact and in South Korea farms and slaughterhouses are prominent. Dogs are held in mostly poor conditions until auctions are held. Potential buyers check the dogs for meat quality and etc. before bidding. Once the auction has concluded they slaughter and package the animal. While the method of execution is quick and humane as compared to the practices of the past,I still find it appalling.

Is it about Religious beliefs?

Some claim eating canine and other taboo animals give them power, energy, and make them closer to their God. What infuriates me is the fact that in South Korea there are no laws against these farms, slaughter houses, and dog meat consumption. How could someone do it?

For me it's simple, I'd become a vegetarian or starve before eating a dog. My hope is that in the near future strict laws will be in place to stop these atrocities. What are your views on this subject? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Keep showering your pets with love and respect. and thanks for reading.

Do you eat Chicken? Chickens are kept in worse situations than dogs, and there are no humane slaughter laws for them - even in the USA.
I keep pet chickens!
I think its best to reduce the amount of meat we eat ourselves before pointing fingers at other nations.
Pigs are just as intelligent as dogs, yet we here treat them no better than the Korean meat farms treat their dogs.
Anyhow, it is sad for sure, and I am not saying it is right.

Yes I do eat other meat but, I could never eat dog meat. Maybe it is just that we are conditioned to not eat dogs because, of how we were brought up. Either way, leave me out of that. Interesting read.
Congrats on the star page, it is well deserved.
Thank you for sharing.:)

I used to eat chicken but over the years I have scaled back greatly. I still eat venison and steak and fish. Like Denise I believe we are conditioned to not eat dog or cat. thanks for the star :)

The thing about the dogs in Korea, Vietnam and other such countries is that they were never pets - they are bred purely for the purpose of consumption, no different to chickens, cows, sheep, pigs or other animals in the western world. who are we to intervene in another country's culture when they are not doing anything that we do (with different animals but quite often the same living conditions) anyway, thanks for posting this interesting article and prompting a good debate on the subject :)

I'm not sure why it became taboo to eat dogs and other such animals, but we have been eating them for much longer than not. http://eatyourpet.info

What needs to be done is a regulation put in place for the fair treatment of the animals welfare. They may be bred for meat but the cruelty before hand is outrageous.

um dogs in china korea philipines and other asian countries are not killed humanely at all
they are hit and beaten, skinned alived, burnt with torches to get rid of fir and disemballed like toys
in philipines they tie their front legs behind their back just like they were prisoners wearing hand cuffs
so no that is not humane
but i agree, im vegetarian
if you think this is bad
why wouldnt you feel bad if they did this to a cow or a chicken

You are right Kimberley, eating dogs is another humans diet. Its nothing we can really do about..... BUT, animal ABUSE is something we should all worry about. Of course no one blames a whole country, because many people do NOT eat dogs. It seems unfair to those people... but anyways, back to the topic. You see, these dogs are not just eaten, but abused too. And everyone knows that abuse is NOT ok, and it needs to be stopped! Tieing a dogs legs behind their back, is pretty much breaking there legs. Also, dogs shouldnt be beaten to death because 'it makes the maste taste better.'

If people are going to kill animals for food, they should at LEAST not kill them so brutelly and painfully! This causes more problems in their countries, and more unwanted attention!

I myself have never eaten a dog, nor am I a vegatarion, but I can tell wrong from right, and abuse, is WRONG!

if only people would learn how to be content...then this would not happen. in fact, humans can survive eating nothing but fruits and vegetables...but humans are always looking and asking for more...they don't realize that their lack of contentment is the main reason why there's no peace in the world.

I am a Filipino but I am a dog and cat lover. I would never eat a dog. I also hate those who kill and eat dogs and cats. Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. i would trust my life to an animal than to a human who can think but can betray.
