The Wales Coast Path, due to open in May 2012, is a continuous walking path around the coast of Wales.
The Wales Coast Path
The path is 870 miles long and follows the coast as near as possible. This will see Wales as the only country in the world with a continuous coastal path. The path runs from the Dee Estuary in north East Wales, to the west to Anglesy and down the south west coast going east to Cardiff and Newport.
The aim of the path is to allow and encourage locals and visitors to enjoy the coastline of Wales, to enjoy walking (thus promoting health and fitness) and encourage tourism,
The project is co-ordinated by the Countryside Council for Wales and delivered practically by the local authorities through which the path passes.
Funding for the path comes from the European Union, the Welsh Government and local authorities.
