Doctors love their Apple products. Just walk into any hospital, and see the types of mobile devices used. Its apple everywhere. So what is the reason behind this?
Why Doctors Love Apple Products
A study earlier this year showed that a full 75 percent of US physicians owned some sort of Apple device. Another study of a major retailer of electronic goods showed that almost 1/6 th of total Ipads are being bought by physicians. So why exactly Apple products so popular among doctors?
1. Simplicity of Apple products
Doctors have latest technology and gadgets at their disposal but their most important need is simplicity. How simple can it make their lives. There are hundreds of medical devices and systems , but are usually poorly designed and often difficult to use by Doctors. Having an Apple device like Ipad in their lives gives them something to appreciate, and make their life easier because their professions and devices which they use are already very complex and they do not want any more complexity.
2. Solid Build Quality
Apple devices extend the solidity and robustness of medical equipments into the Solidly built personal devices used by physicians. According to a leading physician- "The feeling of a Macbook Pro confers this; just compare the aluminum unibody hardware build to the majority of plastic casing laptops -- it's a completely different experience." This type of comparison extends into the smartphone and tablet arena as well. The iPad and iPhone 4 have a clearly superior build quality compared to their competitors
3. Use the iPad or Iphone to take notes:
Doctors always have to carry a clipnoard with them. Who needs a clipboard when you have an apple to rescue? Simply use Ipad or Iphone to take notes. Even if you're not using an electronic medical record (EMR) in your office, you can still use the iPad to take some notes. Simple easy and can be synchronized with the Hospital's server wirelessly and seamlessly.
4. User Interface :
The Biggest strength of Apple its User Interface. Simple, easy to use and gets the job done without any hassles. if you know how to use an iPhone, you immediately know how to work with an iPad. Physicians are a busy lot and don't have lots of free time to sit around and figure out how to use new platforms and devices. Doctors want something that just works, and that's exactly what Apple products offer.
5. Medical professional prefer Standarized Devices, platforms and Apps
Physicians Love to work across standarized platforms and devices and iOS 4 and Apple's enterprise tools make it easy for small teams to manage hundreds of iPads. Open source is not usually very popular in this space. On an Iphone or Ipad-Device profiles can be remotely installed and updated. iOS 4 also supports commonplace IT standards like VPN networking and Microsoft Exchange.

This impact must be limited to the area in which you live. In our local area Apple products are hardly ever seen in hospitals. The PC devices are certainly never Apple.

That directly contradicts the popular saying "An apple a day keeps the doctors away." :) Kidding, wonderful article, Shaunak. Thank you.

Well of course doctors love apple products, they're good for them!
Interesting, and informative article. I've often wondered (when I go to the hospital) why I see more Windows than Apples. Now I know.

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Ain't they just scared of visiting another doctor to doctor them? Hahahahaha!
Nice share my friend!
