Why do social classes exist in our society?

What social class do you belong to upper class, middle class or the fate stricken lower class? You dont know, let me help you; if you can afford a Georgia armani suite, if you can cater your wrist with the best Rolex watch or if you can afford to put on the Original Gucci, you belong to upper class, but if you can only afford the most cheap Nike t shirt then you are from middle class!
Ever thought of those who belong to the lower class??? Its time to have a peek in their lives as well. Lets go!!

Requisites of a prosperous society

Peace, justice and equality are the most important requisites of a prosperous society and a little agitation is enough to harm this peace and affluence of all the inhabitants living in society. But, in our world, having a ‘just perfect’ blend of all the ingredients constituting an impeccable social structure is an ideal picture of life which has nothing to do with the reality. The reason being that in reality, striking a balance among all is not possible. The rising social disparity in Pakistan for the past few years has created a havoc and distress in our society, its people and has impaired our businesses to a great extent.

Basis of social class disparity

Every society is divided among diverse classes on the basis of variations in the income level, place of residence, occupation and education of its individuals. However, in today’s economic situation, soaring prices, rising inflation rate, injustice (because of status), expensive schooling has pushed many individuals as well as families down from a higher level to a lower one. “Justice delayed is justice denied” and our law enforcement organizations are strictly following this very famous quote which has created another social class/ group of those who can afford justice and those who cannot. Economic fluctuations including 0-4% inflation rate in developed countries and up to 5% to 20%in developing countries, falling exchange value of currencies and sky touching prices of goods and services has compelled millions of people to the brink of poverty and destitution. Mere attention is given to those who form the major part of our country’s population and this is causing severe distress and pain for the labor class as well as the middle class to breathe in such aura of restlessness.

The labor force

First of all, talking about the wrecked social class of the society whose existence has become a question of significant doubt, our lower class, any country's labour force is the biggest as compared to other forces but her ability to cater their needs and requirements has been very minimum as against the services rendered by our laborers. The laborers who are employed in construction, Mining & Manufacturing and agriculture sectors are paid such a minimum amount which is not enough to cater even only them. Such issues are creating distress among them and are lowering their morale.

Unjust attitude

Still there are those belonging to the same sector that stand up enjoying hefty amounts of salaries and are also blessed with a lot of accompanied benefits and facilities but on the other hand laborers are compelled to work in tough conditions just to earn a small sum of money without the provision of any additional benefit. Most of the workers who belong to our production and manufacturing sector are subjected to such torture. In order to make a business prosper, it is imperative that its workers or employees are fully motivated in achieving the organizational goals and be satisfied with whatever they are doing. By giving them higher wages as well as other non monetary/ monetary incentives will enable them to maintain their efficiency and efficacy.

Our labor force carries a responsibility of serving various sectors. They have all the potential and talents that are required for the achievement of their tasks. However, if proper education and training will be given to them, their skills will be refined and it will add value to their work resulting towards higher rewards. This carelessness and inefficiency of the whole system of not training their employees plus the recent intense economic instabilities and pressures have penetrated its tentacles in our entire social setup, poisoning it to a gradual death.

Education - To our dismay, another basis of disparity

Coming down to the other basis of formation of a social class is Education; educational facilities have become utterly expensive that’s it is way too hard for a common man belonging to a lower class especially to afford his child’s education. This expense can only be afforded by the upper class people which means that now only the rich can get educational facility leaving behind the ones who are beneath them in one way or the other (especially in Less developed countries). Therefore, all those who belong to the labor sector are unable to equip their children with quality education which in turn could be a source of help for them in the learning of new skills as well as polishing the existing ones to make business flourish and hope for the betterment of their conditions giving a raise in their standard of living.

LDC's (Less Developed Countries)

As it has severally been mentioned above that expensive schooling and utilities has been a major issue of the LDC's therefore shedding some light at its consequences seems imperative. Rapid price hikes in the basic necessities of life has persuaded the lower class people to commit suicides. Recently, in Pakistan and India we have witnessed a number of suicidal cases in which the whole family committed suicides; parents killed their beloved children and then finished themselves as well, all due to the failure of making both ends meet. In the LDC's the middle class is shrinking day by day, merging into the lower and upper classes which is also increasing their poverty rate. The decrease in the lower class has a negative impact towards the businesses of any country as our main production sectors are totally dependent on them, (import/ export) and their destitution is also resulting in the overall discouraged morale of other people within the same class.

Corruption

Corruption among those who are a step up at the ladder of social classes is a big underlying factor why a good change is unable to come up and be implemented within the society even when the upper class is capable of doing so. Their unwillingness in improving the country’s poor situations and issues has made our business sector to continuous shrinkage with the passage of time. They are rich but not motivated and devoted to do the work because they have all that they require to lead a lavish life but poor people who want to bring a change do not have the adequate resources to counter these problems.

Mafia Network

Moreover the mafia network that has spread its toxic tentacles throughout the globe including even the developed countries has been the main bone of contention and the major cause of distress. Lives of hundreds are lost in such bloody wars and is a threat to the lives of thousands. Its because of these social evils that the world in spite of becoming a global village still remains ferocious monster ready to sacrifice anyone just to promote their bloody motto. who is accountable for those lives lost just for no sake? Where even the victim doesn't know why is he being killed nor the criminal knows for what reason is he slaughtering the mankind with such ferocity!!! And in this way Social rights are infringed of those who are weak and are not able to fight for themselves or cant afford to fight.

In short . . . .

Its high time since we all have been going through such mental and physical distress and torture! We all have now a responsibility to take up the duty of eliminating this deadly disease just beginning from our homes by treating our workers or helpers the same way we treat our family members or the people of the same social class! Being humans we all are bound to support each other and stand up for one another, rather than voicing protests and claims just to satisfy our needs and justify our demands!
We should stand for our brothers and sisters who cannot afford even justice that they deserve at least at the death of their beloved due to mere social class difference.
Get up and take the lead of your fate and lives yourself and stop blaming the system for it because you have the power to bring revolution!!

And as far as our authorities are concerned I would just say that:

Being a democratic nation, if we follow the core philosophy of it, “For the people, by the people, to the people” and incorporate all the literal aspects of it in all the policies, regulations and strategies, will definitely lead us towards the elimination of these deeply rooted issues that are weakening the foundations of our beloved country day by day.

Poverty and wealth exist hand in hand, one cannot exist without the other.

You are right mark, but still efforts should be made at least to reduce it especially that created just because of status discrimination!

It's a sad situation. I slipped down the "latter of success" when I I became disabled, yet I'm the same person with the samde values. I don't think your social class has a lot to do with incoime, but it depends on who you are and how you live. You can be as rich as gold dust and still live like a bum.
