Wikinut users should be aware of Wikinut's newest feature, learn how to use it, and not abuse it.
Google Plus
Google has developed a new tool to help their search engines find the best pages on the Internet. They instigated a system called Google Plus.
Ideally the more "pluses" an Internet site has the better it will rank with Google search engines. As of July 2011, this is still in the early stages, but is something Wikinut users need to be aware of and should take full advantage of in order to promote their articles and Wikinut in general.
How to Use Google Plus on Your Article
Wikinut has already formatted its pages to show the Google Plus icon, you will see it at the bottom of your page, right above the Facebook icon.
The first time you press the button it may ask for your e-mail address. If you have a Google account, either gmail, google adsense, or blogger, this is certainly something you can do. I believe that if you do not have such an account you may be required to get one before you can use the Google Plus button - as my wife and I have a blogger account we were ready to go.
After that it is a simple matter of pressing the button, which, as you can see, I did here on fellow Wikinutter Steve Kinsman's article.
You may note that I also added this page to my Facebook.
When to Use Google Plus
Although this is hard for people to understand, you should only Google Plus things that are worthy of it. You might think ALL your own pages are Google Plus worthy, but for most people only about 20 - 30 % are. That is to say if your pages were read by others, probably not all of the pages would have a WOW factor that would cause other people to hit the Google Button.
I suggest to start of by selecting only your top 20 - 50% Wikinut pages and adding those to Google Plus. Here is why I do not think you should add ALL your pages to Google Plus:
Suppose you have 2 pages on almost the same topic, but one is slightly better than the other. You want people to find your best page first. That way they might look at other pages of yours, however... if they find your worst page first, they will not look further.
You should also feel free to use the Google Plus button on other Wikinut articles by other writers. This will elevate Wikinut as a whole and may even bring readers to your pages indirectly. Select only pages you feel are worthy of Google Plus, do not promote lower quality pages.
Other
As Wikinut improves in quality we can attract better advertisers and gain more income for ourselves.

Also - I do not feel this page is particularly worthy of a Google Plus because its more limited to Wikinut writers, however I do feel many of my STAR pages, such as this one on Pet Adoption, would be Google Plus worthy!

This is very helpful Mark, presumably it's ok to put a star page on there?

I will have to check this out Mark. Mark, when I use to use twittley, to get on twittley, all I had to do was type twittley in the google search engine and it would come up 'submit link', now it doesn't do it. I can not even find a way to submit articles. Every site I click on, leads me to another story of someone else writing about twittley. Any suugeestions?
I have yet to put my last two pages on twittley.
Great information on google plus one. Thank you for sharing.:)

For the record, I would not consider this page worthy of hitting the Google Plus Button as it is not information the majority of people will be looking for - it is more for the Wikinut writers to be aware of.
Anyhow to Denise, as far as I know Twittley no longer exists, you can post to twitter directly, use HASH TAGS, for example if you submit a story about dogs be sure to put #dogs #pets in what you say as well as your link

David, sometimes it takes the button longer to load, but it should be at the bottom of your page, right above the Facebook button.

This is so useful, thanks Mark. I tend to ignore new things until others point out to me how easy to use they are.

Mark, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but neither this page of yours, nor my most recent one, seems to have the Google Plus icon above the Facebook icon, as shown in Steve's above, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Val the Google + Icon seems to take longer to load, but it should be there right above the facebook one at the bottom of every page.

Hi Mark! I always wondered exactly what that was, thank you for clearing it up for me :)
In regard to your message (there is no other way to contact you) - yes, and I am very aware of that particular user. I've been rejecting his articles all day... he is persistent, but I'm trying to keep on top of it. Thanks for the heads up :) Of course delete this comment if you're uncomfortable with keeping it on here, but until Wikinut has a private messaging system I don't know how else to get in touch :/
Thanks again :)

Hi Mark,
It's a nice idea to +1 the best articles.
I've done for others' pages.
As you said I'm going to +1 some of my best pages.
Thanks for the advice.

The Google +1 button is similar to the facebook like button. However, I think the +1 button will dominate as the Google+ network grows.
Also, I found out that you can even buy +1 now on sites like http://plussem.com and http://pluseonefans.com
What do you think about this?

I am still learning as a newbee. I have an account with Google and may try this. Thnx Mark. Also, I don't really understand all about adverts. I know we can't click on adverts on our own pages but is it ok to click on other writers adverts? Yep, still a green horn...lol. Smiles, Bets

Its best not to click any ads to avoid the risk of click fraud. The link is a wikinut guide on this rule, you can see it when you look on your own pages and click where it says why you dont have ads on your own page.
