A second look on NBA Golden State Warriors on their long trip to NBA final on 2014-15

An NBA First

"The shots kept falling, those long, gorgeous arcing balls that scrape the sky and destroy the wills of men."
-Adrian Wojnarowsk on Stephen Curry
Sportswriter

Before we have seen an NBA first MVP, who earned all first vote in NBA history we have witnessed Stephen Curry and his Golden States Warriors march to the pinnacle of season and 40 years of drought. Let us revisit the year that was the 2015 NBA finals.

Shots Kept Coming

Sure this season we witness some NBA first both with the current poster boy of NBA and Champion Warriors. We have seen great number of 73 wins erasing arguably the greatest NBA before them the Jordan led NBA troops, Steph made sure he was a little bit on an improve self this year to compliment his reacord breaking team. Lookj at this numbers. 402 Three point shots this season(286 was his old NBA record)!
151 consecutive games with a 3s (broke NBA 127).17 pts in an overtme (NBA record).

Last year the story was something half of that tale but now with out incredible feat . The Warriors completed the regular season with "only' 67-15 (though their own NBA best at that time and season), The Warriors also finished with a home record of 39–2 is far from their now NBA record today of 54 game winning steak., They were first in defensive efficiency for the 2014-15 season and second in offensive efficiency, barely missing the mark that the Julius Erving led Sixers achieved by being first in both offensive and defensive efficiency. On May 4, Stephen Curry was named the 2014–15 NBA Most Valuable Player, the first Warrior to do so since Wilt Chamberlain in 1960. He was however the 11th man to have back to back MVP this season 2016, More form last year details was In the first round of the playoffs, they annihilated the New Orleans Pelicans, destroyed Memphis Grizzlies in the second round in six games and humiliated Houston Rockets in five games of the Western Conference Finals. And as we know, the Warriors made their trip to their first NBA Finals since 1975, We still have the highlight reels whey they braved the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games to win their fourth NBA title their inception. On that series Andre Iguodala was named Finals MVP.

Other highlights of the season included Stephen Curry breaking his own record for three-pointers made in a single season with 286. He and Klay Thompson made a combined 525 three-pointers, the most by a duo in NBA history. In the postseason, Curry shattered Reggie Miller's record of 58 made three-pointers in a single postseason with 98. On January 23, 2015, Klay Thompson broke an NBA record for points in a quarter with 37 in the third. Curry was also the leader in the voting polls for the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, won the 2014–15 NBA Most Valuable Player award and the 2015 ESPYs Best Male Athlete award

Offense vs Defense

How was the tale of the tapes last year? We are not talking about Mayweather vs Pacquiao here but its close to that magnitude of expectations. Some felt that the Cleveland Cavaliers would’ve defeated them if their stars, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, had been healthy. Yay,the NBA drama does not start in the finals. Well not so long ago it usually the case between two nemesis of two opposite side the best of the East vs. the best of the West at times marquee players vs franchise player. Basketball fans have seen perennial rivals of Boston Vs. Lakers, Jordan vs a team with future hall of famers -of which most did not even taste championship (remember Barkley, Stockton et al?).

Last year the landscape started a big change, the great Kobe is constantly injured and his team is nowhere to be around hinting a penultimate season appearance.. Tim Duncan era seems also on farewell season as they were eliminated, and so was the championship caliber of storied LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks including those who also run Portland and Minnesota's best came short in the playoffs.

The drama and superseding stories never ends however. Houston just came from an epic comeback in game 6 and 7 against LA Clippers with their complete team for a battle weary Howard and MVP runner up James Harden. The Rockets have also their fabulous coach and Hall of famer NBA great -Kevin Mchale. Golden State is parading their best point guard and season MVP Stephen Curry and first year coach Steve Kerr. The warrior is a top seed NBA team all season with 67 wins (.817 pct) on their belt.

The ELO Factor

Here's something the purist might consider new on their tools. The ELO Factor. The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players or team for its power ranking. In a stardard of ELO 1800 for greatness GSW is 3rd on all time list at 1796. Well not so long ago it usually the case between two nemesis of two opposite side the best of the East vs. the best of the West at times marquee players vs franchise player. Basketball fans have seen perennial rivals of Boston Vs. Lakers, Jordan vs a team with future hall of famers -of which most did not even taste championship (remember Barkley, Stockton et al?).Let's face the verdict not being time traveler, which isn’t hyperbole; the Warriors were just that dominant. Golden State won 67 games last year, which is tied for the sixth-most regular season wins in NBA history. Come playoff time, they won 16 of their 21 postseason games and they never once faced elimination. On the side note, on May 14, 2014, the Golden State Warriors named Steve Kerr the team's head coach in a reported $25 million deal over five years. It was a first-time head-coaching position for For the caliber of Kerr, 48, he is a five-time NBA champion point guard who holds the all-time career record for accuracy in three-point shooting (.454)- That's surely a lethal weapon orchestrating the bench.

This is a great article, Saigon! Congrats on the star page! The Warriors/Thunder series is pretty good. I think the winner of that series is going to win the NBA championship!

Thanks Sharmaine...am quite little nervous of how the Warriors handles the equally talented Thunder. At 73 wins am expecting them to be in the NBA finals and win convincingly.

The finals pitted the best two players of today. Lebron James and Stephen Curry are sure to become legends. They are different in build and technic. Curry aware of the limitations imposed by his physique has adopted a new method and concentrated on three pointer. No wonder he has been the MVP for 2 years now. Let's see how the playoffs progress this year. You are a good sports writer.

Thanks GV, you are definetely right, but if The King Lebron would not be cautious his throne can be extinct in no time like how Jordan made Bird and Johnson irrelevant when he started entering the finals and effectively made them had their early retirement in terms of magnitude in the game and championship appearance (even had Magic did not had his AIDS career shortening disease).

The heat is on...Warriors finally showed the face of plauoff extinction from the hands of Oklahoma Thunders something they never had experience last year. let's hope the strenght of numbers(of 3pts shots?) will pull them trhough back to the finals. In a worthy storied ending for a record breaking season.
