Tips for Spring Clean

Getting ready for Spring well in advance can help you be more productive and leaves you more time to go out enjoy the beautiful weather that can take place at this time of year. Here are our Top 5 Tips to Help You Love Your Home This Spring:

Plan in Advance

It may sound ridiculous to say that you need to plan cleaning in advance. However, with everything else in life, if you have a plan of action, you will be more likely to achieve your goals. It doesn't need to be a detailed plan, just a one page list on:

• What you want to achieve
• Which rooms/areas of the house are you going to work on?
• What cleaning products will be required
• When are you going to start the Spring Clean?

By doing some simple planning, you will know exactly what you are doing, what is required and when you will be carrying out the spring clean. This should enable you to achieve a lot more in day. For example, by doing this exercise you won’t find that you don’t have the correct cleaning products and you can plan a time a when everybody is out of the house to prevent them getting in the way.

Start with One Room at A Time

Have you ever noticed how if you try and do too many things at once, you end up getting frustrated and give up? It’s the same with cleaning! For a Spring clean to work, you need to plan properly and start with one room at a time. There are a number of benefits for doing this:
• If you start with cleaning one room, this means you can de-clutter that room without really making a mess in the rest of the house. Whereas if you try to do more than one room at a time you will find that you will may make the rest of the house untidy by moving so many items at once and lose motivation quickly.

• Only working on one room at a time means you can maintain focus and have real sense of achievement once you have completed the first room.
• You can break of easily from one day to the next. If you feel you have done everything you can do in a day, by only working on one room at time, you can easily break off and will know where to start next time.

Make it Worth your While

When you are clearing out items or getting rid of items you don’t need, think about how you can sell them on to give yourself a little bit of extra cash. This will give you further motivation to de-clutter and means you can treat yourself at the end. For example, you can sell your unwanted items on eBay or for larger items such as furniture you can resell them at a salvage yard.

You can also feel good about yourself by donating items to charity or helping others by listing items on Freecycle.

By adding this extra level of motivation you can have a real sense of achievement by helping others or rewarding yourself at the end of the process.

Make the Spring Clean Fun

We all know that most people consider cleaning a chore, so why not try and make it fun by:

• Playing energetic music while you clean to keep you motivated.
• Reward yourself while cleaning, maybe have a pack of your favourite biscuits to hand so you can a break while you clean.
• Set a time for how quickly can de-clutter each room and try to beat that time (Meaning you also complete the task quicker).

However you decide to go about spring cleaning your home, make sure that you do as it will make your life easier and you will feel the benefits right throughout the Spring and Summer.
