We take a look at the life and times of Johnny Depp, and a quick glance at his horoscope as well.

His early life

John Christopher "Johnny" Depp II was born June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of John Christopher Depp, Sr., a civil engineer, and Betty Sue Wells Depp, a waitress. He has a brother Daniel Depp, a novelist, and two sisters, Christie, who is his personal manager, and Debbie. The family moved often when Johnny was young, moving over twenty different times and ending up in Miramar, Florida in 1970. Depp's parents divorced in 1978 and his mother re-married, to Robert Palmer, who Johnny said was "an inspiration to me." According to wikipedia..."He engaged in self-harm as a child, due to the stress of dealing with family problems. He has seven or eight self-inflicted scars. In a 1993 interview, he explained his self-injury by saying, 'My body is a journal in a way. It's like what sailors used to do, where every tatoo meant something, a specific time in your life when you make a mark on yourself, whether you do it yourself with a knife or with a professional tatoo artist.'"

His mother gave him a guitar when he was twelve, and he began playing in garage bands, then a year after his parents' divorce he dropped out of high school to try to become a rock musician. Attempting to re-enter school two weeks later, his principal told him to stay out of school and follow his dream to become a rock star. He formed a band called The Kids, and they enjoyed modest local success. The Kids set out for Los Angeles where they hoped to land a recording deal, changing the name of their band to Six Gun Method, but the group soon split up.

Johnny married Lori Anne Allison in December, 1983, who was a make-up artist and the band's bass player and singer. He worked a number of odd jobs, including a stint as a telemarketer for pens. His wife introduced him to actor Nicholas Cage, who advised Depp to pursue an acting career. In 1985, Depp and his wife divorced, then he began dating Sherilyn Fenn and they soon became engaged.

Success

Depp's first big role was in the 1984 horror flick A Nightmare on Elm Street, playing the heroine's boyfriend and one of Freddy Kreuger's victims.. In 1986 he appeared in a secondary role in Oliver Stone's Platoon, and in 1990 he took the strange and quirky title role in Tim Burton's film Edward Scissorhands.

Depp was a great friend and fan of Hunter S. Thompson, and according to wikipedia..."played a version of Thompson in 1998's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, based on the writer's pseudobiographical novel of the same name. Depp accompanied Thompson as his road manager on one of the author's last book tours. In 2006, Depp contributed a forward to Gonzo: Photographs by Hunter S. Thompson, a posthumous biography.... In 2008 he narrated the documentary Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Depp paid for most of Thompson's memorial event, complete with fireworks and the shooting of Thompson's ashes by a cannon in Aspen, Colorado, where Thompson lived."

Enter Jack Sparrow

In 2003 Depp's status as a Hollywood superstar took a quantum leap forward when he appeared in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Walt Disney's smash box-office hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. While director Gore Verbinski said that Depp's character closely resembles the actor's personality, Depp insisted he modeled the character after Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. For his role, Depp was nominated for an Academy Award.

Depp reprised his role as Jack Sparrow in the sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which set the all-time box office record for an opening weekend, taking in $135.5 million in three days.

Businessman, criminal mischief, and fatherhood

Johnny Depp has a fondness for French wines, and he owns a vineyard north of St. Tropez. He used to be the owner of the Viper Club in Los Angeles, but let go of it after actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose outside the establishment.

On September 13, 1994, Depp was arrested, suspected of a drunken fight with his then girlfriend, actress Kate Moss, who he broke up with in 1997. He trashed a posh hotel room in New York to the tune of $10,000 in damages.

On May 27, 1999, his partner Vanessa Paradis gave birth to their daughter, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, in Paris. He now lives with Paradis and his daughter in a two-million dollar mansion in France's Cote D'Azur region.

In 2003 Johnny Depp was named by People Magazine as the sexiest man alive.

His horoscope

With Leo rising, Johnny Depp is very self-assured and takes naturally to acting. The Sun is in what I like to call the house of love received, the eleventh. Everyone who has an eleventh house Sun placement is exceedingly popular. They all have a following. The Sun's bi-quintile aspect (144 degrees) to Neptune (silver screen/music) is the aspect par-excellence of talent, and its placement in Gemini allows Depp to take on a great variety of roles. The Moon's exact sextile (60 degrees) to Neptune allows him to tap into the imaginal realms with absolute ease.

The horoscope pattern here (see my article Horoscope Patterns) is a splash pattern, which signifies a life which tries to reach out and experience at least a little bit of everything. It is a pattern that connects the individual possessing it to a great variety of experiences, since nine of the twelve houses contain planets.

Johnny Depp's Mars-Uranus conjunction marks him as a man with a rather short fuse, and he has been quick at times to get into physical altercations with others, such as the paparazzi.

The trine between the Sun and Saturn reveals Depp to be highly disciplined, and the square form Venus to Saturn suggests he has his problems fully committing to relationships. He's had a whole string of them - Jennifer Grey, Winona Ryder, Sherilyn Fenn, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, to name just a few.

The Mercury-Venus conjunction allows him to take on virtually any dialect a script calls for. This, coupled with his Sun in Gemini, renders him as versatile an actor as there is in film today.

I have been a fan of Johnny Depps or a while, the role of Edward Scissorhands certainly propelled him along as it was such an unsual role.
Excellent information on Johnny Depp.

In these biographies, due to the limitations of space and my feeble brain, I have to leave lots of things out. A gross oversight, I agree. Thanks for your comment, kaylar.

Had to get some insight into Johnny Depp. He is one of the best character actors I can think of. We also share the same birthday/birth date of June 9, 1963. Does that make us twins? I think so! At least that's what I've been telling everyone since I found out years ago.

Interesting, but you would be considered 'astrological twins' only if you were born at the same moment as each other in the same time zone. Otherwise your planets will turn up in different houses and your life experiences would then be very different from each other's.
