A Visit From Beyond The Grave

"In the summer of 1881 I met a man named Johnathan Howard, a resident of Johannesburg. He was visiting Howick for his health, deluded man, and brought me a note of introduction from Mr. Lawrence Earl. I had known Earl as a captain in the British army during the Anglo-Boer war. At its close he had settled in Johannesburg, and in time became, I had thought, somewhat prominent as a lawyer.

The Supernatural Agreement

This is a story told by the late James Blake from Howick Kwa Zulu Natal:

Earl had always seemed to me a truthful and honorable man, and the warm friendship which he expressed in his note for Mr. Howard was to me sufficient evidence that the latter was in every way worthy of my esteem and confidence. At lunch one day Howard told me that it had been solemnly agreed between him and Earl that the one who died first should, if possible, communicate with the other from beyond the grave, in some unique way--just how, they had left (wisely, it seemed to me) to be decided
by the deceased, according to the opportunities that his altered state might present.

A Cold Shoulder

"A few weeks after the conversation in which Mr. Howard spoke of this agreement, I met him one day, walking slowly down towards the nearby, spectacular waterfall, which the little town of Howick is famous for, apparently, from his abstracted air, in deep thought. He greeted me coldly with merely a nod of the head and passed by, leaving me standing on the sidewalk, with half-proffered hand, surprised and naturally somewhat annoyed.

The Withdrawn Friendship

The next day I met him again in the office of the Howick Inn, and seeing him about to repeat the disagreeable performance of the day before, I intercepted him in a doorway, with a friendly salutation, and bluntly requested an explanation of his altered manner. He hesitated a moment; then, looking me frankly in the eyes, said: 'I do not think, Mr. Blake, that I have any longer a claim to your friendship, since Mr. Earl appears to have withdrawn his own from me--for what reason, I protest I do not know. If he has not already informed you he probably will do so soon.'

"'But,' I replied, 'I have not heard from Mr. Earl. ''Heard from him!' he repeated, with apparent surprise. ''Because, he is here, I met him yesterday ten minutes before meeting you. I gave you exactly the same greeting that he gave me. I met him again today, not a quarter of an hour ago, and his manner was precisely the same: he merely bowed and passed by. I shall not soon forget your earlier hospitality and kindness to me Mr. Blake. Good morning, or--as it may please you--farewell.'

"All this seemed to me singularly considerate and delicate behavior on the part of Mr. Howard.

Spine Chilling Letter...

"As dramatic situations and literary effects are foreign to nature, I will explain at once, that Mr. Earl was dead. He had died in Johannesburg four days prior to this conversation. Calling on Mr. Howard , I apprised him of our friend's death, showing him the letter l had just received a moment ago, announcing it. He was visibly affected in a way that forbade me to entertain a doubt of his sincerity.

"'It seems incredible,' he said, after a period of reflection. 'I suppose I must have mistaken another man for Earl, and that man's cold greeting was merely a stranger's civil acknowledgment of my own. I remember, indeed, that he lacked Earl's mustache.'

The Absence Of The Mustache

"'Doubtless it was another man,' I assented; and the subject was never afterward mentioned between us. But I had in my pocket a photograph of Earl, which had been enclosed in the letter from his widow. It had been taken a week before his death, and was without a mustache."

Great Star page as always from you dear Andre'..Spooky tale indeed, and well told my friend. I recall going to a cremation service of a dear friend's mother, and afterwards as we were milling about outside and talking, I looked over and caught the eye of the deceased's Son-in-law, and he smiled and spoke to me in greeting, speaking my name..It was only after I had turned away to speak to another, that I realised that the Son-in-law had died a year or so before! \0/x

Well, sometimes the dead have their ways of coommunicating with the living while many skeptics may be disbelieving it is possible as many of them have appeared in photographs and videos post their passing and have provided evidence of their well being and love. Some even come in form to speak to people they want to speak with. Its all dependent on the manner of passing and the unfinished business that they have with them. Its not always harmful but you detect them in vibes which can be pure and magical.

Well narrated, TP. I recollect an incident when an elderly man was walking ahead of me while I was going to office and then suddenly disappeared. Then only it dawned upon me that he had passed on few weeks ago. I had only a cursory acquaintance with him. He might have wanted to say one final goodbye to me! siva

While I am sure that the skeptics among us far exceed the "seers", I feel privileged to be counted among the latter. Thank you for your comment Siva.

Well deserving of a Star. I believe these types of incidents can happen. Many years ago I met a young man at a party and told him to be careful. I didn't know why I gave him a warning. Just three weeks later I knew he had died. This was confirmed by one of his friends and it made me wonder if I had some strange power. This has never happened again.

Prophetic words indeed, which reminds me of a rendition of a play of The Passion Of Christ performed by the parents of the children of a tiny little hamlet called Wakkerstroom "Lively brook" where we once stayed in the 1990's Where one of the parents had spoken some most profound words with grave results as a consequence. I will write about next. Thank you so much for reading.

When The Resurrection of Christ took place in History, they thought in ghostly bizarre terms until reality finally sat in. Christ was no ghost. Jesus Christ is alive forevermore!
