Home security has gained in importance in the 21st century with house breaks and robberies on the upswing.

Securing your home

For an average American home security has increased in importance say from about 2/3 decades back. With the surcharged atmosphere of theft, house breaking and resultant crime on the increase, an average home owner or owner of a small business has an absolute need for an home security apparatus or device that help him. It must be appreciated that sometimes the police are unable to act expeditiously and in their absence the security of the home or the small business premises becomes a major concern of an average citizen.

In the market companies have marketed a range of security systems to help a common citizen improve his personal and home safety. Most of these systems are simple to operate and install, but the bottom line is that they enhance the security environment of the home or residence. Hence the need for a security system can be easily understood. But the question that begets an answer is as to what should an home owner look for in a security system. With hundreds of systems available , a little knowledge will go a long way in selecting a security system.

Home security system will generally consist of the following

This is the basic ingredient of a home surveillance system. The camera can be black and white or color, but it will need recording facility as well, which is activated and if the need arises. This facility enables the pictures to be replayed to get a video recording of an intruder if any. Camera’s for home security come in a wide range of cost and one must select the camera that has the highest resolution to be effective. The picture needs to be clear and not blurred and this will depend on the resolution of the camera.

Recording and Viewing features

A simple camera as a stand alone will have little relevance in case it does not have recording and viewing features. This forms an integrated module with the camera and dealers will market the system as a composite entity. The camera will need to be wired to the recorder and viewer. Generally this wiring is simple and within the realm of an average householder, but most dealers will get the system installed as a marketing measure. Hence when buying home surveillance system read the bottom line whether the dealer will install the system. Also check whether you will have to pay for it or the installation will be free.

Backup Service

This is again an important aspect of an home security system as servce backup is essential for it to be effective. Any snag must be attended with alacrity, as otherwise the concept of having a home security system will fail. Generally the dealer must have e-mail and chat facility as well as telephone backup. More important he must attend to complaints as early as possible.

recording facility. In addition there must be a comprehensive back up of service as well. Hence we can sum up the entire scenario, that a good security surveillance system is a requirement for a home and must incorporate a high resolution camera.
