Plants need to adjust to new surroundings, and they may even go through a mild case of shock when first brought home.

Acclimatization For Plants Takes Time

Over a short period of time the plant has traveled from the meticulously controlled environment of the commercial greenhouse, to a different environment at the retailer's, and finally to a home with yet another set of light, humidity, and temperature conditions.

Acclimatization takes several weeks. At first, leaves may yellow and blossoms drop. Pay special attention to the plant's needs. A plant that normally tolerates dim lighting may have been grown under strong light and will need time to adjust to the change. Ease the transition by placing it in interim locations with decreasing light intensity, leaving the plant in each spot for several weeks or more before placing it in its chosen site. Keep plants moderately moist during this adjustment period and do not allow them to dry out. Water thoroughly each time and discard excess water from the drainage saucer. Once a plant is acclimatized to a particular set of surroundings, try not to move it.

TracyAnn, I could follow your great tips on how to take care of plants but, they would still all end up in the trash pile. No green thumb here. Thank you for sharing.:)
