Many beginner bloggers will build a blog that is an online journal of their personal lives. This is therapeutic and a good way to learn how to blog. However, if you are serious about working at home, you can always try niche blogging with a purpose. You can build an online blogging empire that will work for you to generate a passive income long after you have built the blog.

What is a Blog?

Simply put, a blog is a form of an online journal. You can write about just about anything in your blog, whether this is you opinion, thoughts, ideas or even tips. Blogging sites generally include many of the things you will need to build a blog such as a text editor to type in your content, icon links that allow you to make hyperlinks to other sites, your services, products and such.

You can add photographs and perhaps even videos and mp3 players for others to learn from and enjoy. Some bloggers choose to include a lot of content, whereas some bloggers may include photos or audio recordings. It is all up to the blogger when it comes to what to include in a blog.

What Comes with a Blog?

Depending on the type of blog you choose to use there are often a few templates that you can use to add a bit of decoration to your site. The settings in a template are generally set to include places for your blog title, the body of your blog post, categories, trackback links to other sites, permlinks otherwise know as permanent links and a comment area. All of this makes it so much easier for beginner bloggers.

After registering to a blogging website, you become a member of its online community. You can surf along visiting other blogs, you can comment on community blogs while leaving a link to your own blog if you like.

Use Your Blog Your Way

You can use your blog for personal tidbits or you can develop your blog into a niche blog with a particular theme while focusing on a specific topic or subject.

Keep in mind, however, that building a blog that will make you money is really a job, even if it is only part-time. It does take time and effort as you focus on creating quality content for your niche product. Nevertheless, before you can begin creating your content, you will need to determine exactly what you want to promote. Once you determine this, you have found your niche market.

After adding a few blog posts, you can begin searching for affiliate programs to join and then add their links to your blog. Whenever one of your readers uses your affiliate link to make a purchase or sometimes opt in to a service you earn a commission.

You will also need to learn how to monetize market and promote your blog in order to drive traffic to it. Of course, you will need to attend to several other details in order to become a successful niche blogger.
