Back to school shopping can be a fincial planning nightmare. It doesn't have to be.

Back to school budgeting

When the last day of summer is approaching, the thought of back to school spending can loom over your head. Purchasing school supplies and clothing it can put quite a dent in your wallet. And there are times being able to afford everything you need is not possible.

Making a budget for how much you want to spend on items is extremely important. List every supply you need and the clothing items. Sticking to a financial plan is important. Do your research and take your time before you start shopping.

Inventory what you own

Take a look at what you already have at home. These items should all be crossed off your list. Although it is nice to have everything new, this is a want not a need. This will help you save a significant amount of money.

Research online

Take some time to look around the online stores. Find out where the cheapest school supplies are offered. This can save you a significant amount of money. Check for online sales. Many times you can purchase online cheaper. Be sure the delivery date is in time for school.

Thrift shop

Check surrounding consignment stores and thrift shops. Many items you will find close to new. Children grow so quickly, you could find brand name items with the tags still on. It can help you save a great deal of money buying clothing.

Purchase off season

Buy items off the peak selling season. After school starts, check supplies. They have drastic markdowns to clear out inventory. For clothing, shop at the end of each season and stock up for the following year. Doing these can save you hundreds of dollars a year.

How much did you save

Make a game out of trying to beat your budget. There is nothing better than coming in under the money you planned to spend. Take this and put the extra cash towards bills or in savings.
