The group of Ladies who Latte, hosted a Funday by the Clock Tower on Sunday. It was the first time for this event, was it a success? Read on to find out more

Carol's Blog about Bayfest Funday

I have been living in sunny Herne Bay since the year 2,000. During my time here I have written 4 of my books. I have attended Craft fairs at the Kings Hall in an effort to become more well known, and during the summer, most Saturdays find me at the bandstand, another place where I have had a lot of support for my work.

When I heard there was going to be a Funday by our renowned Clock Tower, I was very keen to be part of it, in the summer, Herne Bay attracts many visitors as well as the inhabitants themselves. There were so many activities taking place, as well as craft stalls, there would be live music, singers and a band, dancing, food and drink, it was a day that would live up to its name , and be fun.

Most of my events are usually inside, so I don't have a gazebo, quite often the wind can play havoc with my leaflets, but Sunday could not have been a more perfect day. The sun shone brightly all day, there was just a gentle breeze, and I really enjoyed setting up my table of books beside the clock tower, with the sea shimmering azure blue, so inviting if I only had time for a dip, but not on this day!

There had been a lot of activity on twitter and facebook about the event, and what a great job had been done. There was so much interest, I did my bit too sharing it around. I think social media is a wonderful way to gather people together, especially for those on holiday, who might not be aware of what is going on locally.

A group photo came First

Before our day started all the stallholders were invited for a group photo. We dutifully lined up, and I could feel the buzz of excitement around me, indeed the night before I too had felt excited, and not slept that well. I was like a young child the day before she goes on holiday!

I took a quick tour of the stalls before the event started, there were so many, I saw jewellery, ladies from Slimming World to inspire us all to get fitter, next to me tickets were being sold for the community lottery, with a prize of £1,000 for the lucky winner. Nigel sitting in his chair was in full voice, doing a great job of encouraging people to buy, and I think he may have lost his voice by the end of the day, but it was all in a good cause.

There were other stalls too, too many to list, so many handicrafts to tempt the eye, all lovingly hand made. Then there was a chance to win a mini, with advice on how to save money by changing your energy providers, shared by Liz, such a friendly lady, who had the most gorgeous and well behaved tiny dog, yes a real one, sitting on the table, and thoroughly enjoying all the attention from passers by.

Entertainment

Away from the stalls, there was an area where you could buy burgers and sit to eat and drink. Chairs and tables had been put out, and many people were sitting there, enjoying the sunshine .This is where the entertainment took place. We had singers, Martin Fairbrother, and Roxanne and and a band called The Rocking Decades . The fun was so infectious there were people dancing, and one particular young lady in a long red dress was having the time of her life. She had such energy, she danced continuously, and it did my heart good to see her having such a great time. There was also Peppa Pig for younger children

Lots of children joined in too, it was so spontaneous, and what could be nicer on a lovely summers day, whether you are on holiday or not, on a day like this, it felt like you were. I wasn't in a position to leave my stall and join in the dancing, but it didn't stop me from tapping my feet and waving my arms to all the familiar songs that I know so well.

My day

For me the day was amazing. I had so many people at my table, looking through my books. Because my biography is a true story about my son, who has autism, I always find parents like to discuss their own experiences with me. Nowadays the condition is more widely recognised, that was not the case when Philip was born, and this is why I wrote the book to share my own experiences.

I am very proud to say that MY LIFE IS WORTH LIVING! has gone so well, it is being reproduced in paperback, so my efforts to reach a much wider audience to highlight autism, and how it affects families, are soon to be realised. This makes me very happy.

I have written six books, and my seventh is about to be published next year on 6th April. All of them are covering different genres, hopefully giving customers a wider choice of which one to buy that suits them. On Sunday I made so many sales, and met so many interesting and friendly people, I had a blast!

My thanks go to our hosts the ladies who latte, Liz, who supported me, Nikki Casey who booked me, and Martin Who told me about the event in the first place. I had a wonderful and fulfilling day, it was a huge success and truly hope we can do it all over again next year.
My thanks to Youtube for the video, and Laurenbythesea for all images except mine
