Welcome to the world of Chihuly the artist, the effulgent genius that echoes--reverberates--creativity, expression, fantasy against the perfectionism that deems to dominate our thoughts, ideas, and stop them before they are realized. How can we find the cork to our fear and release it? Let me sketch you a picture, mold you a free form.

Musings Mull against the Void

Like the written word weaves unique paintings against the backdrop of our minds so Dale Chihuly has woven his brilliant thoughts into words of glass against the setting of light, form and color. Speaking through glass his works nod to our wildest dreams of impossible, elemental, of being free within and beyond the confines of mediums. Artistry that rolls off the tongue is passion's flaming arrow that finds it mark on the heart of inspiration, so Chihuly's vision speaks to me.

Staring at the Incunabulas Of Masterpieces

Can we imagine the ideas that permeate an artist's instinct? When acted upon to see the unrivaled determination that turns each errant thought into a blossoming, spiraling arc, or an angled prism that reflects the shades of a face of deft contemplation--it's thrilling in its procession. To get inside such an artist's mind, to see the skeletal forms of brilliance spark against the fuscous shades of indecision, what an amazing experience!

Like staring at the private notes of Shakespeare before his plays were established, fully realized, to see the lifeless form of an idea birth to a life-changing piece, how often do we get the chance? Watching the creative progression of Chihuly throughout his life, breathes substance into his pieces beyond the reach of what is seen with the naked eye. Breath-catching by any angle, the depth behind his sculptures are animated, the play of light against the bright shades of his recent works as delicate as the petals of a newly turned petal to the sun. What more could we ask for? Still Dale Chihuly gives us something beyond expectation, a perspective that is art in its own right, unique to those appreciative fans who praise his originality and the demanding drive that spurs him to creating arresting pieces.

Realizing Artistry Reaffirms Our Own Convictions

Chihuly imagines works that impose on our senses and stimulates our deepest urges to create. The locales favorite place to visit, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington (where Chihuly was born) exhibits many of Chihuly's select pieces of art. Inspiring gasps of awe with tourists and locals, and future artists alike, every exhibit brings to light the true talent and genius of an artist who will inspire for years to come. Now a new piece has sprung on the scene, but rather than through sculpture and form, it is another angle or facet to the artistic talents of Chihuly--the inner workings of his artist's mind.

With galleries detailing the producing of artistic works process through the eyes of Chihuly inspiring the artistic appreciation of many viewers, the museum showcases floor to ceiling displays of the method Chihuly uses to send his glass artists his next great idea. On fax paper, the first gallery display features Chihuly's first musings in infantile stages, with soft strokes of pencil and graphite smudges that outline the beginnings of his next great projects. On and on the process unfolds, as one step after another into the next gallery takes his creations further into concrete, tangible pieces.

Staring into the masterful musings plastered in grid like form via faxes placed on top of each other and side by side, we are encompassed into the world of Chihuly. From the pale of more haphazard sketches to coalescing connections made through detail and line definition, to color drawings that like art themselves inspire us to think, to be, to test the boundaries of indulgence, and let our thoughts carry us to the achieved dreams that taunt the edge of reality--we see the mind of an artist emerge into the light.

Like a crescendo builds, the musical drama unfolds without the music, but the colors and forms when fully sculpted, handled, felt, trip our hearts with the steady beat of a dawning realization. When at last we alight upon the gallery that pulls the forms and thoughts and intricacy of art to their potential 3-dimensional sculptures, we are blinded by the capability of ourselves to achieve and conjure our ideas into reality. This new exhibit at the Museum of Glass does not only inspire aspiring artists to create--it inspires the art in all of us to emerge, it challenges us to build, to expound on our ideas and never hold back on those thoughts we treat as fleeting. In truth like in Chihuly's rapturous displays, we can if we allow ourselves--blossom under the tutelage of a heart that never stops its own beating, a heart that lets creativity, invention, ingenuity, guide it to a continual pursuit of capturing the fleeting that pervades our minds, and divulging in our own passion by acting upon it.

I saw an exhibition of his here in Salt Lake some years ago. The city commissioned him to make some art for the concert hall...It is beautiful.

Incredible! These are extraordinary works of art in glass! I'm wondering how such large fragile creations manage not to break before they're assembled. Do you know about his methods and what makes them robust?

This is a not-to-be-missed exhibit the next time I'm passing through Tacoma!
