We are provided with every tool to find meaning and purpose in our lives. We come with inborn awareness and inner knowing to make sense of the consequences of our actions. It is logical that, given such freedom, we make use of the opportunity to leave a positive legacy to show our gratitude as we may not pass this way again.

Blessed Life

We are more than blessed to have a happy, contented life, but then the choice is ours! We have every ingredient to lead a life of fulfillment – use them, mix and taste the result, and we know even the secrets having learned the pitfalls from history. The challenge is before us and let us move forward step by sure step learning all the time. Without challenges our life will be a damp squib; so even that is taken care of. We have a huge playground with more to share as we progress in science and technology. In fact, we are exploring all the time, extending our boundaries – we haven’t seen anything as yet; the canvas is wide open. Our forefathers started charting out the paths and it is up to us to do our part. We have to mix the ingredients wisely to enjoy the final product, alter them for variety and we may even have those for finding the elixir, panacea. What we are provided with have multi uses and the final products vary according to the way we use them. They can be constructive, productive, but alas can also lead to our downfall. Our Creator has given us a free rein; create the world you want to live in - is His mantra. We are at the apex of all species with no one to lord over us and that is a real privilege, but also comes with responsibility – fair dinkum.

Ingredients Aplenty

What are the ingredients that we are given, yes, for free though we take them for granted, sort of as a birthright?

Natural Resources: The natural resources are countless and varied. In fact, everything can be used to add value. Mix them in the right proportion for best results. We can even learn from our mistakes. They have been accumulated over billions of years before we made our grand entry as the chosen ones! We are still unraveling the secrets and that will keep us going for eons unless we blow our chances! And that will be a terrible karma and also make our Creator wonder whether He made a mistake in conceiving us!

Time: Individually we may have limited time but as a species we have sort of come to stay. We have premonitions of end of the universe five billion years hence, so we are already preparing to face that eventuality! So we think we can not only extend our lease but also the whole process itself; Creator should be patting Himself for having us with Him!

Nature our Guide: Nature is our guide and companion; in fact, we are just part of nature even plundering from it like there is no tomorrow or it can take care of itself – are we spoilt brats? Nature fights to reinvent itself and gives us a clean slate every day, every year. By aligning ourselves with nature, we can add maximum value to the creative process.

Other Species – our Fellow Travelers: Other species are our companions and want to be left alone, but they try to blend in with us too. Imagine a world without them! So we have to be grateful for the largess and variety is indeed the spice of life.

Universe and even Beyond: We do not know the final frontiers of our universe; it is expanding and travelling at breakneck speed taking everything along including the mighty us. Imagine the energy needed and also the balance so that the objects do not crash against each other! And we do not even feel a jolt – we sleep like a baby. And what is beyond our universe – your guess is as good as mine!

Inner Knowing: We come with an inner knowing that guides our motives, actions. The beauty is we know the consequences of our actions, lifestyle. But we are given freedom to decide the course, the path.

Consciousness: We are conscious of our surroundings with our five senses connecting with creation in harmony. Of course, it is up to us to reach whatever level; again the freedom sans boundaries at play.

Intelligence: We are born with intellect and intelligence sharpened with the passage of each generation. We build on what is given us, so we should take care to reach a higher level not only in science and technology.

Watch out for Downfall

That we are more than blessed is clear, but we have to watch our steps as the cost and consequences of follies may prove too much to recover from – they can deal a mortal blow on us and the rest. So we should not blow up our chances and incur the wrath of others who depend on us, at least leave us alone! We may leave this shore but karma can kick in relentlessly. Our attitude decides finally – thousand dollars will mean differently to each person; for some it can even mean the difference between life and death. Finally, our destiny is controlled by us – we have the knowledge and awareness more and more by the passing day; are we up to the challenge? We should never forget that this could well be a onetime chance to prove our mettle and we can well stare at the goings on from outside when we move on. Think of the oneness of creation and the uniqueness in each of us – blend in within creation seamlessly but never miss a chance to add value. Life should have purpose and meaning as Creation itself is based on the ultimate of commonsense and logic.

Dear Siva, once again well said and very true there are so many ingredients to help us lead happy, contented lives. But the trouble is that we don't make proper and constructive use of these God-given ingredients! So the mind gets restless and wayward, and negative thoughts take over. I suppose it's a matter of controlling the mind, but I think this virtue is confined to only a few people.

Thanks dear Subra for your wise input.

We are all in the same boat but some rock it trying to capsize it, but the master oarsman balances our ride!

The countless variety keeps us on our toes; in fact we do not know what awaits around the corner. Our life is a gentle roller coaster though some get carried away to spin out of control! I personally believe heaven, hell and in between are here - what is beyond is, well, nobody wants to tell us, and that makes the most ardent of believers not to leave in a hurry! siva

Siva, thank you for sharing such an enlightening article. I believe we are all in charge of our own destiny. We can either live a good life or we can live a bad life. It's all by choice and if people would understand that, I think the world would be a better place. So many times people let others guide them and they should open themselves to what they themselves know to be fact. I hope you can understand this. I think it's all in how much we trust our inner voice.

I look at what we are in life and I have seen some with little material possessions bringing cheer to society around them. Alas, are also those who look out for every opportunity to enrich themselves even at the cost the poor; greed breeds on greed and, thankfully, also kindness - siva .

Alas dear Siva ...if happiness were only for those who accumilate wealth and goods ...many more than now would be miserable indeed .
True happiness is knowing we are loved by our Creator , who made us in His image , and has given us every good blessing to richly enjoy .
Also to be content with whatever we have , and not to strive for more is said to be great gain .
That is real happiness to me , plus the company of loving friends who are like-minded in their love for the Lord ... Wonderful
God bless you with His love and every good blessing today and always

Thanks dear Stella for sharing your beliefs and values.

I have moved with the very wealthy also the poor who are not really underprivileged as they are taken to be. In fact, many are blessed to have a loving family and time at their disposal to share with them. The rich try to get to a higher circle (yes, there many wheels within wheels) and end up pursuing wealth as the be all and end all of life.

The variety that we enjoy is countless and also the challenges and it is up to us to make wise choices than get misled by others and the superficial glitter.

My happiness comes from being useful to society sans borders - siva

Thanks ~ Siva ~ for sharing this beautiful, powerful piece.
You wrote "We are more than blessed to have a happy, contented life, but then the choice is ours! We have every ingredient to lead a life of fulfillment . . ." YES ~ for sure.

The way I see it ~ much of this fulfillment comes from being able to realize that our Creator God is Love ~ and ~ He is gracious and full of compassion
We are able to praise His name forever and ever because He is Great. In Our Creator's Wonderful Book of Teaching on Life and Love, we are told in the 145th Psalm that: His greatness is unsearchable ~ and ~ that one generation shall praise His works to another ~ and shall declare His Mighty acts.

We can choose to accept His Son as Lord ~ to obey His teaching ~ meditate on Scriptures that describe the splendor of His Majesty ~ and speak of the might of His Awesome acts. So yes ~ as you stated ~ the choice is ours!

Richest blessings to you!

Thanks Helen for your generous encouragement and input.

Wherever we are placed, we have plenty to be grateful for and we should carry that thought when we take our last breath. We should fight the good fight than be distracted by noise and I include some that goes by the name of music!

From personal experience, I have found when one door closes, many open to welcome me with both arms. That is the beauty inherent in life, the choice is ours. Also man proposes, God disposes; accept the fruits of our labor with gratitude - siva

Thanks dear Stella for such kind words, I am truly humbled.

It is still work in progress to better myself. One should have the right attitude and then the rest will fall in place. Lao Tzu said “Time is a created thing. To say 'I don't have time,' is like saying, 'I don't want to.”

Balance in life serves us well and let us re-balance ourselves to find meaning and purpose. I believe we change over a period - say ten years - due to age and experiences. We have to be nimble all along.

Yeah, the world is changing faster and I do hope we remain as humans with feelings for others. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a basic guide for me when in doubt - siva

Wonderful all-inclusive article siva

You always paint things with such a colourful positive brush siva, but is your brush here too broad?

"Creation itself is based on the ultimate of commonsense and logic."

Is this true though, what is commonsense to love and creativity, and what is logic to these things too?

Logic sits on the sands and looks upwards wistfully up at love. It can never reach love, but boy it keeps trying to.

Commonsense is a sort of bridge connecting the two, but it too cannot ever reach fully to love.

We must go past both of these ideas to reach the ultimate creativity of knowing without knowing, by growing consciously into unconsciousness and following truth, rather than mere common-sense and logic.

But then again, I have no commonsense, so these are only my own illogical ideas, LOL.

Thank you Spirited for thinking aloud on the basics!

Yes, love should be the fundamental starting point of the whole creative process. To conjure something out of nothing is beyond our comprehension - what is the starting point and when, before that there was nothing!

We all start with something, so we are mere products of the process. I think there is logic and common sense involved in the process, from one stage to another, as we evolve all the time. To think we will stay as it is cannot align with the ongoing process of change and evolution.

My point was mainly to find meaning, being grateful, and listen to the inner voice than follow edicts handed down because they are mostly misrepresented to divide us. We belong to the human species, come under the same umbrella and share the same basic resources.

I want to breathe gratefulness as I do not know when is my last breath! siva

thanks for your in-depth reply siva, to be grateful and to breathe gratefulness is to breathe in and out with love, and all of your articles are tempered with this spirit of love and gratefulness, as well as a sort of humble graciousness too.

I just like to throw in a few spines of my own sometimes...LOL...

Thanks Pinks for your input. This can be due to an inner feeling we can do much better
to help society in general. Or we have inner passion that we are ignoring.

We need the challenges to keep us on our toes. A contented life can become a lazy one too. For me, I never let down my guard as these are times like "the calm before a storm".

We should always look for opportunities to better ourselves. I learn more from those who are happy helping others. I am reminded by them how much I fall short as a human being! siva

Yes Judy, those in need give us an opportunity to show our mettle, worth, test our resolve.

I have learned more from supposed failures. The rich should open their eyes as Bill Gates said decades ago that giving money on a platter can disadvantage children. It is better that they live in a real world.

I have faced times when every door closed shut but then there was a ray of light to give me a toehold! I manage to crawl out to breathe the fresh air again with renewed vigor, strength and hope. And God appears in human form though we tend to overlook such times! siva

We are at a crucial junction in our human existence where we have to decide whether to extend the hand of friendship and cooperation to others, or shoot missiles at them to drown them and raise walls to keep out masses from goodies under the garb of competition and worthiness.

The recent crisis of Mid-East and African refugees to Europe highlights an urgent need for an all out effort for a worldwide peace and friendship.

Or else, I do not see a bright future for the whole world, at the cost of sounding a pessimist.

Thanks Ptrikha for your thoughts.

The refugee crisis is a blot on human conscience, an inconvenient truth, and our failure as a species that does not care for our own. It is triumph of few evil chasing innocents out of their own countries.

I repeat there is no difference between common citizens anywhere. I met a young couple from Syria and within a short time became friends sharing our lives and outlook. As we were both on holidays I was anxious about my passport while he did not care as he says his has little value now! In fact, he has the world before him and he suffers for no fault of his. We lamented how few manage to hijack the majority agenda to live in peace. In fact, he surmised the world suffers due to big power politics and I would add the arms merchants are bent upon keeping their factories humming! I said though we are from different religions but share the same air to survive and he had some gallows humor to share. I felt an immediate affinity with him and worried about his future.

We know we are digging our own graves and that is no way to live a life knowing what will befall us if we follow that path.

We should not look at who our leaders are and where they come from; it is what they do that matters for uplifting society. As Deng Xiaoping said and proved by action - it does not matter whether the cat is white or black as long as it catches mice!

We behave like teenagers but at least they grow up after few years! siva
