Always wanted to start a herb or flower garden but don't have the space. You can now with a container garden that is cheap and easy.

Start the container garden today

Don’t have the room for a garden out in the backyard? What about starting a container garden that you can keep on your back deck or even on your front porch? It doesn’t require a lot of room and you can still have that garden you always wanted. Creating a container garden can be relatively cheap if you know where to acquire the containers. Here are some great inexpensive ideas to start that perfect flower or herb garden.

An old child’s toy

If you have kids then it’s likely that you have some old toys lying around that they haven’t played with in a while. Use that old dump truck toy that is missing 3 tires, it would be perfect for holding your favorite plant or herb. Just drill a few holes on the bottom of the toy to allow water to drain.

An old metal washtub

Don’t know what to do with that old metal washtub that is sitting behind your house? It would make a perfect container for your herb or flower garden. Just drill some holes on the bottom and your all set.

Candy and popcorn tins

Christmas is over, so what on earth are going to do with all of those popcorn and candy tins that you received as gifts through the holidays. Instead of stacking them and crowding your storage space, why not turn them into useful containers for your flower or herb garden.
The ones that have the design printed directly on the metal instead of the paper label are the best because they won’t end up rubbing or peeling off later.

Wooden salad bowl

You know that wooden salad bowl that is sitting in the back of your cupboard just collecting dust? You finally have a great use for it now. It’s perfect for a planter for salad greens that have shallow roots. Just drill some holes on the bottom to allow water to escape and you solved your container problem.
These are just a few problem solvers for that flower or herb garden that you have been waiting to start. Now you can start it without shelling out a bunch of your hard earned money.

Lucky for me I have 10 acres so there is always place to grow something, usually it's weeds though!
