Windows 7 has a variety of customization options. You can customize the desktop, the taskbar, Window themes and also the account picture. The account picture is the small picture you may note located at the top of the Start menu. It can be changed to a number of alternatives, either those included or you can add new ones.

Customizing Windows 7 Accounts

To change the account picture, select the Start menu. From here you should open the Control Panel. Then note User Accounts which should be selected. A shortcut is to select the account picture located at the top of the Start menu.

Next you'll need to select the change your picture option. Windows 7 will then open the account picture window. Here there are a variety of pictures from which to select for your user account. Cats, dogs, flowers and footballs are just a few of the various images included.

To add one of them to your user account select the suitable picture. Then you select the change picture option. The window should close, and the picture will then be added to the Start menu. Open the Start menu again to check the new user account picture. Note that this will only be modified for the account you're logged in with.

You can also add your own user account pictures. But you'll need to have a camera and USB (Universal Serial Bus) cradle to add additional pictures to desktop. Take some snapshots, and then add the USB cradle to a USB slot. Select the photos that are to be included and add them to a suitable folder, such as a photo folder, where they can be quickly located.

But the new user account picture does not have to be a photo. You could just set something up with package such as Corel Paint Shop Pro, or other graphic software package. Set it up so that it's a 128 x 128 bitmap.

Next you should return to the user account picture window. Note the browse for more pictures option which is located below the user account images. Select that option which will then open a folder directory window. From there you can locate the folder that includes your new pictures, and then select one to be added to the user account.

Once more you can return to the Start menu. Now your selected photo should be included as your user account picture. In much the same way you can add new pictures to alternative Window 7 user accounts.
