Build a chair, paint a wall, put together a bookcase, but when it comes to your home, Do Not Do It Yourself!

Losing Thousands

A homeowner, incensed at the price he had to pay a professional company to make an addition to his house decided that the next time he would 'Do it Himself.'

The Homeowner was not a construction engineer, electrician or plumber. He worked in an office and watched paper go from one place to another. What made him think he had the skills to add a room to his house?

He Did it Himself!

The Homeowner hired a guy who did construction work. This was an all purpose day labourer who knew how to mix cement and how to slap cement on blocks.

He knew nothing about architecture or engineering. He had worked on sites and seen it done, and figured it couldn't be too hard.

The Homeowner agreed. Together they worked out the 'foundation' and the length and width and ran 'strings' to fit the room into.

Use your imagination as to how this turned out.

Always Hire Professionals

When you hire a company when the work is done badly you can sue.

Although the last resort it is a resort. However, you can't sue yourself. You can't sue a day laboureer whom you've paid pennies.

When you hire a company which does a professional job, you increase the value of your home. Not just by the cost of the improvement, but by the overall improvement.

For example, a two bedroom house sells at 100k. A Four bedroom can sell at 300k. The 200k increase might be gotten for a 50k investment.

A two bedroom house which was valued at 100k, now after an amateurs de-provements can barely gain 60k. Hence by attempting to save money the result is a mammoth loss.

When it comes to your house, never do it yourself.

If you do a bad wallpapering job it's not that hard or expensive to correct it. When you add a room badly; that is a lot of money to correct
