I know that it could be cultivated by a person in his/her personality through developing certain qualities in built-in characteristics, habitual conduct and ways of dealing others. Thus, characteristics, conduct and ways make three distinct categories under which we may study those features of a person that make him/her impressive.

What Matters for Impression

People don’t get impressed by a person without a reason, and the reason for instant and continued real impression is called personal magnetism of the person. I am not sure whether some person are born with a personal magnetism, but I know that it could be cultivated by a person in his/her personality through developing certain qualities in built-in characteristics, habitual conduct and ways of dealing others. Thus, characteristics, conduct and ways make three distinct categories under which we may study those features of a person that make him/her impressive.
Here, I must impress that creating a good impression is not that important for a person as is the creation of a real impression of who he/she really is without bothering whether he/she shall be marked as good or bad by others. Good and bad words are subjective and circumstantial in most of the instances.

Impression Works for You

I have always been insisting that a person works for a much duration than his/her impression on others works for him. On an average, a person works only for 6 to 8 hours of day and 5 to 6 days a week, while his/her impression keeps on working for all the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
An impression is not a time-bound or fixed phenomenon but a continuous process in working from the moment the person is first interacted with, through memories about him/her to the point he/she is interacted last. After this, this last interaction becomes the first interaction for a continued impression. Alterations in this impression may take place at the interaction points only, as shown in the picture. The purpose of this study is to find those features of characteristics, conduct and ways that improve the impression of a person on others.
Characteristics of a person are permanent features of a person acquired by him/her through inheritance or his/her mental make-up. These are honesty, sincerity, tolerance, etc. while conduct of a person is governed by his/her habits and could be altered up to some extent. Ways of a person are his/her actions for handling a particular situation and these could be different under different situations. These may be articulated by the person through thinking and deciding in advance of handling a situation.

Intrinsic Characteristics

Characteristics of a person are his/her built-in qualities mostly inherited and instinctive with some being intuitive. The person does not have much of control on these except that if these are suppressed under artificial conduct or external circumstances of the person, these may be brought to the forefront of life through thoughtful regulation of one’s life.
What is recommended for the person to live a life of natural self, and let his/her built-in qualities come to surface. This makes the persons conduct governed by his/her characteristics and the person’s performance remains at optimum level in whatever he/she does. It is, thus, the most natural way of creating an impression on others of the real self.

Extrinsic Conduct

With conduct under governance of characteristics of the person, there are a few more things a person may do to improve his/her impression on others -
1. Be a good listener
Better part of a conversation is always listening. This not only saves energy of the person, but proves him/her to be better at conversation through limiting his/her words to objectivism, rather than subjectivism. Undoubtedly, objectivism is the ideal thing for a conduct.
2. Work passionately
Whether the person works day and night or remains idle for most of his/her time, his/her impression on others depends on the results he/she produces. The results are always the best when a person concentrates fully on the task in hand without any distractions. This is what is known as ‘passionate working’ in psychological terms.
3. Share your Adventures
Courageous tasks and miraculous experiences through them are the most precious endeavors of a person which can’t be appreciated and properly evaluated by all others. To use these for creating a real impression on others, the person is required to share these with others in a friendly way. This sharing inspires others to be adventurous and what inspires surely has a good impression.

Ways for Developing Magnetism

The third factor of creating a real impression is to be close to others and bringing them closer to the self through creating an amicable and soothing environment while meeting. For this, a few well-tried ways are narrated here.
1. Attract attention
Humorous, aesthetic, emotional and surprising interactions with others bring them instantly closer by attracting their attention and letting them have a real impression of the person.
2. Your Message
Every moment of your life must be involved in a mission which may be long, medium or short term. Every mission has a message to the self as well as to others. Such messages relate to your real self, therefore, create a real impression of yours on those receiving your message from your mission. You need not to convey this message in words but display it in your behavior.
3. Let your Unique Qualities become Apparent
If you don’t suppress your real self and its unique qualities, these get naturally apparent to others coming in your contact, and these become your personality’s ‘unique selling points’ in terms of marketing terminology. A general impression matters a little while a person is well identified through his/her uniqueness. Remember, display of each uniqueness needs some courage in you, and that matters to others in getting an impression of who you are.
