Easy Cooking:Prawn on a Stick with Sesame Seeds and Sweet and Sour Sauce

Great to serve as a finger food during cocktail parties or as a starter during dinner parties. Shrimp skewered and coated with sesame seeds batter that is deep fried to its perfection.

Easy Cooking:Prawn on a Stick with Sesame Seeds and Sweet and Sour Sauce

    Ingredients and Procedure:

  1. Remove the head, peel but remain the tail intact and de-vein 1/2 kilo of prawns.
  2. Marinate into a mixture of 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, and 1 teaspoon rice wine for 10 minutes.
  3. Skewer each prawn into barbecue sticks.
  4. Dip into the batter which is composed of 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/3 cup cornstarch, 2 medium sized eggs beaten1 1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds.
  5. Deep fry for about 1 to 2 minutes or until golden.
  6. Prepare the sauce. Boil 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 6 tablespoons sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons ketchup, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1/2 cup water, 2 tablespoons minced onion, and 2 tablespoons oil until thick. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. Arrange on a plate and serve.

    Tips and Tricks!

  • Do not overcook your shrimps/prawns.
  • You can also make the same recipe using a squid instead or prawns, if available or as what you prefer to use.
  • You can plate it with or without the skewer and just place it into a martini glass and pour the sauce at the center.
