Any city where dead people dwell is bound to carry with it, dark secrets, hidden histories, ghost stories, and forgotten tales. Such is the case with, St Georges churchyard, located in Schenectady, New York, where ectoplasm is a natural occurrence at the haunted churchyard cemetery that was established in 1735.

Vaporous Clouds & Ectoplasm are the Precursor to Spiritual Energy & Forming Apparitions

Paranormal phenomena are just one of the small portions of the many unexplained mysteries that has been discovered on our planet by those who are actively seeking it. The invariable nature of the paranormal often includes rare findings that simply cannot be explained, yet they exist in our mind and feeling of presence when we have had the good fortune of experiencing these unique observations. Misty, dense spiritual energy, sometimes referred to as ectoplasm, often bringing forth with it, a thick slimy or strange foggy substance that a few ghosts has materialized from is one of those rare phenomenons that has been torn apart by researchers, scientists and even a few paranormal investigators, and is often considered nothing more than a hoax with no basis in fact.

Typically, when a vapor or mist is present, and it cannot be considered as being caused by moisture, fog, smoke, steam, or breathe in cold air, the unusual characteristics of such a vaporous cloud are usually assumed to be that of a physical manifestation of a ghost or spirit. Ectoplasm is that ethereal precursor or beginning formation of many apparitions. Fog, vapor or an airy mist is usually witnessed just before the entity comes into a lifelike vision of energy that normally forms into a being that we can relate to due to the human features that are found in most harmonious spirits.

A Mysterious Vapor Encompasses the Churchyard Grounds

Any city where dead people dwell is bound to carry with it, dark secrets, hidden histories, ghost stories, and forgotten tales. Such is the case with, St Georges churchyard, located in Schenectady, New York, where ectoplasm is a natural occurrence at the haunted churchyard cemetery that was established in 1735. The city was settled in 1661 and eventually incorporated in 1798. The original territory belonged to the Mohawk Nation, but was eventually grants of land were given to the settlers pouring in from Europe. Possible reasons for paranormal activity today derives from events from the past. A bloody massacre on a cold February day in 1690, comprised mostly of French forces along with Ojibwe and Algonquin warriors, attacked Schenectady by surprise, leaving 62 dead. Many of the town's people were taken prisoner, burnt, shot, and left suffering in the midst of the brutal attack.

The haunted cemetery offers very little explanation as to why there is a continuous hovering of a mysterious vapor like mist that often encompasses the entire grounds and bestows the feel of pure darkness even though it is pure daylight. Night time in the cemetery is chaotic. Ectoplasm is clearly evident as spirits lobby throughout the grounds in an effort to materialize. Strange odors, disembodied voices, footsteps, dark figures, and the feeling of being touched are all present realizations once you have committed yourself to touring the grounds. Many of the historic gravestones have been haphazardly moved and are now leaning up against the church's exterior walls. Spectral representations of the non-living have been caught lurking near the headstones and a strong scent of sweet smelling roses can be detected at the exact moment of seeing the unexplained image. However, during a few dark nights when the moon is strangely silent, the nauseating smell of blood mixed with a tinge of sulfur can be detected. At this time it is probably best to exit the churchyard as quickly as your feet will carry you to the nearby street.

Cultural Points of Interest, Ghost Tales & Historic Stockades; the Perfect National Treasure

Schenectady is a town rich with history, war and ghosts. Tours of these historic haunts are a popular outlet for anyone interested in paranormal, history, art, and beauty. The bewitching hour evokes one to further explore the popular, national treasure of the historic stockades that lead you through the historic district of Schenectady, New York. Views of the river along with cultural points of interest lure historians and paranormal investigators into a frame of mine where history, preservation, ghost tales, and a love of beauty come together in a perfect liaison of mutual interest and respect for humanity, the unexplained and the obvious.

Sherri, excellent article as always. I've learned a new word from you today and that is a very good thing. Ectoplasm is a word that I have never used. I even had to check to make sure I spelled it the right way. I know that you know that I will never be visiting this place. It has such an unfortunate history. As I've said many times before I'm not the bravest soul in the world. Great writing and congratulations on the shiny gold star.

Very intriguing and a little frightening Sherri. I sometimes wonder, do the ghosts know we write about them?
Just kidding of course. Enjoyed reading your article as always.
