Fall has come with its usual climate changes. Many people hesitate to do any garden work during fall since it is followed by winter. But it is a very good time for planting and doing other home and lawn works.

“Fall is the best time of the year,” says Lou Manfredini, Ace Hardware’s home expert. “It is the time of the year when you can get fabulous deals at nurseries, trying to clean out their stock.” Garden lovers find fall as the best time for pruning. Most of the plants can be safely pruned in fall.

A trick to prune beautifully

Fall has many garden chores. Pruning is most important of them all. Manfredini suggests a trick for pruning beautifully. Just stay away 10 to 15 feet from the plant and look at the plant. Cut here and there creatively and look at them to find how they look better. Do not remove more than one third of a plant since too much cutting can damage the whole plant.

Lawn care is also an important chore of fall

Autumn may tempt to neglect lawn care. The lawn needs a good rake. A metal like rake makes your lawn care easier. You can spend an afternoon for this lawn care. Do not forget to aerate the soil to allow more aeration in the lawn. You may punch the soil with little holes or pull out small plugs. They will provide more space for the roots to grow. If you have large areas of lawn you may use the power aerators available at tool-rental stores.

Fall is the perfect time for seeding

If there are gaps in the lawn you may fill them with seeds. They will germinate in one or two week's time and will provide a very good green up in the following spring. Even the fertilizer you put in fall will yield a good result in the next spring.

Watch for holes in the lawn or garden

The cracks or holes may become hiding places for rodents during winter. Those holes will create danger to the house and yard.

Fall is the season to check the house in and out. The heating system and other systems can be checked and get ready for the colder and darker days.

Fall is the season for encouragement and enthusiasm. It is not a season for zombies. It is an energetic period of useful activities.
