It's said that the 60's are the new 50's, but employers know well that they aren't on accounts of the number of women that have lost their job, but have been unable to find another.

Fashion for over 60's

It's said that nowadays women that have passed their 60 birthday have changed and that they have nothing to do with those from past generations.
In the past, a 60 year old woman was well dedicated to her family and if she had a job, she had had that job since her youth, mainly as an office clerk or a receptionist, or she had, perhaps, qualified as a nurse or a teacher. Then, she retired to stay at home. Many of them put on weight and they accepted their extra pounds or stones in their bodies, saying that so it's life. They always said that make up was for younger women and they tended to search shelter in the comfort of their own homes with a husband or friends that they had known for many years. Yet, on one day, things started to change.
Over 60's women revamped their clothes, buying clothes that would be fine for a 30 something. If they put on weight, they did exercise and put themselves on drastic diets. On the bathroom shelves, they started to have make up, cream pots and fashionable shampoos that claimed to hide grey hairs. Some of them went even further as pretending that they could dress as 20 somethings with torn blue jeans or a variety of T-shirts instead of flowered blouses or fine silky ones. Their looks had changed a great deal to think that they could befriend their children's friends....
The fact that one turns to 60 doesn't mean that one has to do like one's grandmothers did nor to pretend that one can dress and behave as though one was a 20 something.
It's true that a 60 year old woman or man can have good looks provided they don't suffer from any illness and they look after themselves a little bit, but this change in 60 year old women (or men!) has a lot to do with fashion and marketing always eager to fish customers and to broaden their horizons as regards sales and profits.
One should look after oneself, but above all one should be oneself.
As it is said the 60's are the new 50's nowadays, but many of us know it isn't quite like this and employers know this well.
