The extreme violent nature of the Poltergeist movie along with the heightened story-line and the unexplained paranormal activity that engulfed the characters and film crew's lives during the time of filming gave way to truth being stranger than fiction. Supernatural phenomena began to affect the sound stage and the actors who worked on it day in and day out. Beginning in 1982, four of the cast members died in the time between the release of the first and third movie.

The Poltergeist Curse

1982 brought viewers the first glimpse of mischievous and noisy ghosts in action with the movie Poltergeist. Due to the popularity of horror films, the movie's unique plot made it one of the most successful films of the eighties. Sequels to Poltergeist were released in 1986 and 1988. It is believed that the extreme violent nature of the movie along with the heightened story-line and the unexplained paranormal activity that engulfed the characters and film crew's lives during the time of filming that made truth stranger than fiction.

The supernatural phenomena began to affect the sound stage and the actors who worked on it day in and day out. Beginning in 1982, four of the cast members died in the time between the release of the first and third movie. The evil curse is believed to have been caused by using real cadavers during the filming of several scenes. In 2002, “E! True Hollywood story” featured an episode dedicated to the Curse of Poltergeist.

Not long after the 1982 release of the original movie, Poltergeist, Dominique Dunne who played the oldest daughter, Dana, in the Freeling family was strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend. Then, in 1985, Julian Beck who played the 'insane preacher' in Poltergeist II, died of stomach cancer. In 1987, actor Will Sampson, who played the the part of “Taylor” in Poltergeist II, died after receiving a heart-lung transplant.

The last of the actors to succumb to the Poltergeist curse is American child actress, Heather O'Rourke, who played the part of Carol Anne, died in 1988 of a septic infection due to a bowel blockage that cause bacterial toxins to enter her system. The died young girl died on the operating table while they tried to remove the blockage. Heather was discovered by director Steven Spielberg at the tender age of five. The passing of the child star brought complications to MGM's marketing during the release of the last Poltergeist movie, for fear that it would be viewed as exploiting the star's death during the release of Poltergeist III in 1988.

Informative article.
Some of these 'coincidences' actually came to the attention of our circle at the ashram. The monastics wondered ... and waited.
Thank you, Sherri.
