A lot of people think French is one of the most difficult languages to learn or improve in the world, due to its variable tenses and complex conjugations.

Fun ways to improve your French

In fact, I started to learn French around 3 years ago. Now I can already use it to write documents, participate in French-speaking meetings and feel free to communicate with French-speaking people in French. Some people think my French can be improved quickly because of my outstanding language-learning ability. In fact, I prefer believing that I adopt the right ways to practise and improve my French. Are you interested in knowing my French learning experiences? If yes, I would like to share my tips here with you:

Tip No.1 Make friends with French-speaking people and enjoy fun with your friends in French.

If you live in a big city, it’s quite easy to find some foreigners to be your language-practice buddies. Where to find them? You visit some online dating websites or language exchange communities to search for some foreign friends who are interested in learning your native language and teach you their own language in return. The most ideal partner for you is someone who doesn’t understand your native language at all. In this way, when you teach him or her language, you have to push yourself to communicate with him or her in French. By doing language exchange, your French expression ability can be improved incredibly quickly.
Another effective way to improve your French is to understand the culture of the French-speaking countries better. Learning a language is not just about learning vocabularies and practising your pronunciation. In order to understand the meaning of vocabularies better and improve your French expression ability, you’d better improve your understanding of those French-speaking countries. Making friends with French-speaking people make it’s possible to listen to their stories and understand their culture better.

Tip No.2 Enjoy chatting fun online with French-speaking people.

Another practical tip to improve your French fast is to chat with French-speaking people online. At the beginning of learning French, you may feel shy to open your mouth to talk directly with French-speaking people. You can use the online chatting tools to practice your brain to think in French. When you chat with French-speaking people by exchanging text messages, your brain is pushed to generate a quick response to communicate with your foreign friend. When your French speaking ability has been improved a lot, you can even use those online chatting software to do audio or video chatting. Audio and video chatting allows you to chat with native French speaker around the world, while you are sitting comfortable at your home.

Tip No. 3 Watch your favourite TV episodes in French.

Nowadays, a lot of popular American TV episodes have been translated into different foreign languages. In order to improve your French listening comprehension, you can choose to watch your favourite TV episodes in French. For example, I am a fan of the series ‘Sex and the City’. I have bought all its 7 seasons in French Version. When I watch my favourite TV episodes in French, I enjoy a lot of fun.

I love the idea of watching my favorite shows in French.
I one time watched the french version of LOST on the french TV channel, it was kinda cool but I have not yet got that far in my language skills to understand it if I had not seen the English version.

I do this, and also when I watch my favourite DVDs I switch on the French subtitles and scribble down phrases. Great for grammar!
