Go Camping and Discover Reality

The beautiful simplicity of camping and what lessons it has taught me.

Why on earth do I like camping?

Today during lunch I discussed with my co-workers the reason I like camping. I am happiest when I am surrounded by nature. It's a feeling that cannot compare to anything else. When you sleep outdoors in a tent, it allows you to breathe fresh air, smell the trees and the flowers, and hear sounds you cannot hear inside a house, even with open windows. Animals walking through the leaves, swimming in a nearby lake and the voices of owls and crickets settling in the trees. You go to sleep shortly after the sun goes down and wake up when it rises. In the morning, the sun shines through the tent and its warmth wakes you up. You hear birds singing. Nature is waking up with you.

The beauty of simplicity

Your basic needs are met and that is all you require. Life is beautiful when its simple. Nature is showing you what life is all about. Your problems in the real world become what they really are--insignificant. You realize how powerless you really are. Its not in your hands. Feelings of overwhelming happiness take over you. Whether you live or die from that point on doesn't seem to matter.

What happens when nature disappears?

When there are no more trees or grass or flowers, no more animals or insects, no clean oceans and rivers and lakes and no fresh air to breathe, life will no longer be worth living.

That is what camping has taught me.

I like nature. But my idea of roughing it is a hotel room without a microwave. ;) To each her own, for sure.

Yes, but when you come home from vacation, do you appreciate what you have in your home or do you wish you were still on vacation? That's another thing abiut camping I like.

I tried camping once, but did not enjoy it. But, that was many years ago, maybe I should try again. :-)

Pick somewhere beautiful where there are things to do nearby like canoeing, horseback riding etc.

I appreciate nature, and am active in an earth club, but have never camped outdoors. This is nicely written. Michelle
