Some personal observations concerning women in my life, women's roles in American culture, and some of the erroneous myths about women.

Personal Observations About Women

When God created the earth, the animals, vegetation and all other living things, man was the only creation that was initially created that was not able to reproduce himself.

Then God said that it was not good for man to be alone so he made woman to be a helpmate for the man and also to reproduce the species. Man had no idea at that time how fortunate he was not to have the task of perpetuating his species (childbirth) placed on his shoulders.

As circumstances would have it, 4 very strong women raised me without having a male presence in the household. My family migrated to Los Angeles, California from Hot Springs, Arkansas in the early 1940s right after the start of World War II. Like so many minority males in our society, my real father fell victim to alcoholism, being a weak man, and did not participate in my upbringing.

My Great-Aunt Lula was an Apostolic minister, my Grandmother, Mother, and Aunt Nita were very instrumental in guiding me through my childhood and instilling a Judeo-Christian moral base in me. The morals that were taught then are still in effect today and have served me well for over 60 years. The terms "please", "thank you", "excuse me", and "I apologize" are timeless and will always be relevant.

I do not know or understand how the erroneous notion that "women are inferior to men" started in history, but I can assure you that has never been the case. As far as I have been able to observe, if the truth were known, males are usually lacking in many areas that women excel in. It could be that women communicate better with each other and are more honest about the issues that are meaningful concerning life. This is just my take on this situation.

Also women are more compassionate and show their true feeling more readily than males as a rule. I suppose that God build this function into the woman because of the job she has to do (child rearing.) While it is a truth that women "think differently" than men, their decisions are usually tempered with emotions that men are reluctant to exhibit and therefore the female results may seem to be more logical and workable concerning life issues than their male counterparts. This is called balanced.

There are extremes that can be taken in any area and the "women's movement" is no exception. Since I am part of the "Baby-Boomer" generation (era 1960s), then I have been around to see recent history in the works. While women in America have historically been denied equal status granted to their male counterparts in many areas such as business, I believe that the point has been made to validate their worthiness in all areas that they have chosen to pursue. It is time to face reality, put the myths and prejudices to rest, and get on with the business of restoring America to it's prominence as a world leader. It is time for the pendulum to swing back the other way.

If the roles were reversed, I cannot conceive how a man could undertake and perform efficiently the task that has been assigned to women. Just my take.

Looking back over my life, I find that having the advantage of being trained by women and observing the feminine point of view at a young age has given me a great advantage to contemplate life from a balanced perspective as a male.

When I finished my basic high school education I entered the U.S. Army and served my country for 3 years. During that time I was introduced to the concepts of "being a man" and was able to "balance" my thinking with what I had previously learned at home, something referred to as "mother wit." I truly believe this knowledge has kept me well grounded mentally, balanced, and given me a sense of my true identity. An additional benefit of my military tour was that I was able to visit Europe and observe other countries and learn about their cultures.

I have been happily married for the past 30 years and I have been blessed with 4 Great-Grandchildren who adore me. The feeling is mutual and now my job is to assist in raising them and passing on the values that I have learned which have produced positive results for me.

I thank God everyday for the privilege to still be here with my family and the opportunity to see my Great-Grandchildren and have a hand in molding their young lives. Everyday is like Christmas; we never know what the next package contains. (smile)

I stand by my title, "God Bless Women And Especially Mothers Everywhere."

God bless America, our troops and leaders and may God continue to bless Israel and her leaders.
