System tools are for general PC maintenance. Overall, Windows XP includes a number of good system tools which can be used.

Guide to Windows XP System Tools

The system tools can reached via the XP start-menu via all programs then accessories. From here, there is the system tools menu. The system tools included on Windows XP are: disk clean-up, defrag, system restore, system info, scheduled tasks and file transfer.

Disk Cleanup

To start with the disk clean-up system tool. This system tool is used to scan the hard-disk for files that can be removed. For example, files such as temporary Internet Files, the recycle bin and other temporary files. Then it will delete the files if required. In addition to this, software can be uninstalled via add/remove programs although this is not listed under the XP system tools.

Disk Defrag

This will scan the hard-disk for fragmented files. Then, if required the defrag system tool will defrag the files on the hard-disk.

System Restore

The system restore sets restore points. Then, if required the system restore option will restore the system to the restore point selected. The system is then restored to as it was at that point, before any further software had been added or removed. This can be a good option, if you want to restore software that has been removed.

Scheduled Tasks

The schdueld tasks included with Windows XP allows users to schedule software to run. Let us say for example, that you want to run the disk clean-up monthly. Then you can set this to run on a specific date of each month, and then it will automatically! A variety of software can be scheduled in this way.

System Info

This will provide various details of the system. For example, a general summary including specs like RAM, OS name, system name etc. Aside from this, hardware resources and components will also be included. The system info might also include details of the office software included.

FilesTransfer Wizard

The file transfer wizard assist with transferring files and setting from an old to new system. Overall, the wizard provides suitable guidelines for this.

Overall, those are the main system tools included with the Windows XP operating system. Tools such as the disk-clean up, file transfer wizard, system info, scheduled tasks, system restore and defrag. However, various system tools can be installed on any PC, with utility software such as Glary Utilities which can provide further system tools.
