History of Hans Wegner
Hans Wegner is a Dutch furniture maker who started out as a cabinet maker. He decided he wanted more out of his life so he returned to school to get his degree in Arts Crafts. He received his degree in 1938 and began working for Jacobsen and Moller. He added much to their designs and then moved on to business on his own. He was very successful at furniture making and will be remembered for his vivid styles that were responsible for opening many eyes to the chair as a piece of art. He was best known for his work in the 50’s and 60s. Hans Wegner worked with cabinet maker Johannes Hansen. Hansen knew exactly what Hans Wegner was trying to do with his designs and his love of the work showed in the craftsmanship. The two worked together for many years. Today you can buy replicas of the chairs that were designed and crafted by these two. If you are lucky you will run across an original from time to time. Know what you are looking at is pure genius.
