Do you still watch TV in the living room or den with the family gathered around the TV for all their favorite shows? Or do you watch it in the new way I will describe in this article?

Old fashioned TV not being watched as much anymore

There is a new study released by A.C. Nielsen that has some interesting news. The news is that Americans are not spending as much time watching TV in such a way people did in the 60's up until the 21st century. That means old fashioned television set that today has a remote control and 800 channels on cable.

But this isn't that good of news as it doesn';t mean we are sending our children outside to play so that your children have a little exercise and socialization playing with friends.

And adults a couple isn't playing bridge with their friends or some other game like scrabble or whatever. Games adults used to play in the evenings. Even if it was only the one couple playing a rousing game of Parcheesee

What are people doing not watching Televison

The thing that is taking up people's time is what many people consider so important and that is is their mobile device and some people use them a lot.
They are not watching the old fashioned TV because they are watching television shows that they adults watched as kids. They watch Shows that were on Television before they were even born but might have heard their parents talk about them, And they are watching a show or an old movie or new movie or shows that is exclusive to your tv watching service that is where a person watches them. Then some stream to their television. An example of a service is Hulu Plus

Hulu Plus and how it works: what you get for the two tier of prices

Hulu Plus has one package that is $7.99 for the package a month. This package will make you sit through commercials but with that price you have:

Can watch anything on Hulu that includes many movies, Some may be older movies and some more modern ones. Then you get old TV shows you haven't seen in years and new exclusive to Hulu Plus shows.

They keep up with seasons by giving you the newest show on Hulu Plus the very next day

And it can be played on numerous devices such as video game consoles, televisions by streaming, Tablets, PC's and, of course, the popular smartphone.

And you can add an extra $8.99 you can add the cable service Showtime if you don't
like the commercial package you are free to upgrade.

The second tier is all the things I mentioned except it costs more because you can watch any show without commercials that are what it seems that people want as they have DVR's and the people I know who have them skip commercials.

The age group not using Televisions to watch what is on TV

The Associated Press gives data that the amount has gone up and continues to increase for those between the age of 18-34 years old use Tablets, smartphones, or a game console or any device that to your Television you connect it to so you can stream from services such as Netflix.

This past May (2015) people in this age group not using a television set opposed to May 2014. n May 2015 with average 8,5 million people watching a minute

What people aren't using for entertainment

More people are using their mobile devices that in a sense take over the reductionof people turning on a regular radio. They aren't listening to music, the news or talk shows on that radio. By radio I don't mean Sirius radio some have in their cars or using a laptop computer, PC or old-fashioned television set

Where are these people using their mobile devices

The age group of 18-34 years old during the same period of May in both 2014 and 2015 had a drop of eight percent of the group using an old fashioned television, Nielsen figured this out as 16.6 million people viewing per minute on their mobile devices.

There are those who are sitting in front of the television and sometimes those people don't pay much attention to their television.

Also some people use their viewing pleasure out of their house, maybe at a coffee shop but they are using their mobile devices and watching that show they are watching every episode the show that is on their service.

Nielsen's Comparable Traditions

The A.C. Nielsen report discussed in this article is its first one ever called "Comparable Metrics". It is different it is now giving out minute by minute of what people are watching on their mobile devices,

The study also tells us how smartphones and other devices and how they cut into our Television viewing with an old fashioned television

The Nielsen report also measured people browsing the internet, all app usage, and whatever games that the person plays. But when a person on their smartphones made a phone call, or they texted neither were counted

When was the last time people watched TV old fashioned way the most

In 2009-2010 was the year, the most people watched television the old fashioned way in the 21st century. And Nielsen says these people watched either satellite or a cable hookup to their Television. It is suspected the most people watched TV during this time because cable companies started offering over 500 or more channels. Those channels would give a channel for any possible interest.

It also could be that stores sold more television sets than ever before. Everybody probably wanted a fancy new flat screen Televisions that were all the rage not long ago. They also sell what they call smart tv's that have the internet and apps on them.

My husband and I have thrown out our tv set 14 years ago. We are not interested anymore.

Neither do we play games or watch films or read novels. It's all sooooooooooo boring!

So what DO we do then? Well, my husband comments on the Daily Mail online, I read non-fiction books or search how-to articles on the internet, we both write a lot and grow bio-dynamic vegetables and fruits, we travel, we meet friends, we host dinners on - gosh, there are so many things to do out there, watching tv is so boring and such a waste of time!!!!

You won't be sorry to give TV a miss. Suddenly there is so much time! To do so many things! Well, that's just how I like it. Imagine, in summer I took up crocheting again and am now (with the help of the nice ladies on Youtube) getting really good at this crocheting.

I'm not suggesting you take up crocheting! It's just something I always wanted to do!

I also love learning even more languages on Youtube and I've finally found a singing coach, also on YouTube, who offers lessons that seem to suit my rather deep singing voice.

I mean, I'm 60 now! What do I want to do singing lessons or language lessons for? I don't know, it's just fun!!!!! :)

Sorry, I forgot to mention it. I only do the FREE lessons on Youtube. And that's quite enough! :)
