Trackbacks and Pingbacks are quite annoying sometimes and if you want to completely disable it, here is a step by step guide on how to initiate it.

Introduction

I really do hate those trackbacks and ping notices whenever I log in to my WordPress powered sites because it was so annoying especially if your site is just pinging itself. I often experience these problems to some of my sites that have post’s already queried for a week and it was just so tiresome finding the right pingback and trackback manually without deleting the important ones.

The Guide:

Step 1 - Please look at the screenshot above and refer to the Step 1 image.
I decided to disable trackbacks and pings for future post. But I still receive a lot of it and found out that my old existing published post’s were the culprit. And the way to disable this on old existing posts needs to run a MySQL query, so better backup your database first before performing the next steps.

Step 2 - Please look at the screenshot above and refer to the Step 2 image.
Locate your WordPress database by logging in to your phpMyAdmin.

Step 3 - Please look at the screenshot above and refer to the Step 3 image.
Next, click on the SQL tab:

Step 4
Finally, the following query must be executed:

UPDATE wp_posts SET ping_status='closed' WHERE post_status = 'publish' AND post_type = 'post';
UPDATE wp_posts SET ping_status='closed' WHERE post_status = 'publish' AND post_type = 'page';

Thats it! Trackbacks are now disabled on all of your existing published posts in WordPress.
