Centre-Radius Circle

In Solidworks sketch tools contains two types of circle options; Centre-radius and perimeter circle. Centre radius circle is also called as “Circle” sketch tool which have a centre point and radius. To draw you need to set the centre and radius distance. Here you are going to see how to draw centre radius circle in solidworks 2012 interface.

Step-1: New Part File

To draw anything in Solidworks, first you need to create new part file. To do this, go to File menu and select the “new” from the drop down menu. Then a dialogue box will appear and select “Part” from it. Then Click “OK”. You can see new part file interface.

File Menu --> New --> Part --> OK

Step-2: Select a Plane

The draw inside the part file interface, you need to select a plane from the default options such as, Top plane, Right plane or Front plane. It is the base of your drawing and makes a platform to start your drawing inside a part file. Here I select a “Top Plane”.

Step-3: Select Circle Sketch Tool

Click on “tools” menu and select “Sketch entities from the drop down menu. Then a side drop down menu will appear and select a Circle option from it.

Tools menu --> Sketch Entities --> Circle

Step-4: Draw Centre-Radius Circle

Drag your mouse pointer to the sketch area and click anywhere to set the center point of your circle by clicking on the left mouse button.

The drag the pointer outwards to set radius length and click left mouse button to set it. You don’t worry about the dimension settings. You can set it by using “Smart Dimension” or using the Circle property manager. This way you can do a circle drawing in SolidWorks 2012.
