The Windows Vista start menu can be customized in a few ways. Windows Vista has various start menu settings, which can be used to further customize the Vista start menu. So, here are a few ways that you can customize the start menu in Windows Vista.

How to customize your Windows Vista Start menu

To begin with, first consider right-clicking on the start-menu. From here, select properties. The properties menu then includes the start-menu tab. Select it, and you may note two options here: start menu, and classic start menu. Currently, the first option of start menu will be selected. However, by selecting the alternative option of classic start menu, then this will change the start menu to more like previous versions of Windows, such as Windows 95 which can be quite a contrast to the Windows Vista start menu.

Whichever start menu option you prefer, you may also note that both include a customize option beside them. These options provide various ways that you can further customize the Vista start menu. From here, links, icons, and menus on the start menu can be customized. The start menu size can also be reduced, by lowering the number of recent software displayed.

However, there are further ways that you can customize the Windows Vista start menu beyond these customization options included on the start menu. Consider for example, Windows themes which alter the icons, backgrounds, menus, even sound. So, changing the theme will also customize the start menu. Right-click the desktop and then personalize. From here, you can select the themes option. Windows only includes an alternative Windows classic theme, however there are many further themes that can be download.

Short-cut links can also be pinned to the start menu. To pin a short-cut to the start menu you first need to right-click the current software icon. From here, you then select pin to start menu. Do this, and the software will then be added, or pinned to the start menu. To remove any pinned software included on the start menu, you should then select unpin from the start menu.

You can also change the picture that is included in the start menu. To do this, you need to open user accounts. Under user accounts, select change your picture option. Then there are a few pictures you can select from here. Alternatively, you can use your own pictures by selecting browse pictures. Select a suitable picture, and then this will be included at the top of the start menu.
