Western Patriarchal Societies have Suppressed the Divine Feminine for so long they Cannot Relate to the Earth as a living Being in need of Care. Converts believe they can live in a technological universe, but the tide is turning and the Goddess is returning.

Mother Earth and the Goddess Inside

We are not separate from the earth and we share her fate whatever that maybe. In order to heal ourselves and the planet we need to re-integrate the divine feminine, to reacquaint ourselves with the feminine side of god. There is an empty place inside that demands to be filled, but can not be satisfied with worldly possessions or achievements. As long as we believe we need these, there will still be hunger. What leads to true satisfaction is accessing the riches within the human heart and its talent for connectedness and empathy with other beings and the world of nature. Science has proven that trees release chemicals which are healing for body and mind. If we hurt nature, we are the ones who will ultimately suffer.

The treatment of the earth is intimately linked to the treatment of women and the fact that women all over the world are demanding their rights to education and a life free of violence is a sign of the rise of the feminine archetype.

Aboriginal women have long been considered as disposable by authorities and the white majority. When they are displaced form the land with no social supports they often end up as prostitutes and addicts. (see video)

Religion

Before Christianity, most religions were Goddess based. People felt their dependence on earth's fertility and revered her abundance and generosity. Goddesses still remain in some religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, but they have taken a back seat to the male deities. In Christianity, the Virgin Mary takes the place of all the ancient fertility Goddesses, but she is the queen of heaven, not of earth, more like a sexless angel, a decidedly one dimensional Goddess.

Patriarchy

Western culture has become dominated by an aggressive patriarchy which became firmly entrenched during the industrial revolution. As a culture, we have forgotten our connection to nature and our dependence on her and make believe we can make our own world using Gaia as a resource only. Power, control and profit have become the values as well as bigger, better and more.

The powers that be seek to replace the gods of the past with corporations and see no place for nature in their plans. They have lost touch with their feminine side and the divine qualities of empathy, nurture and protection. They have chosen power and control over love and connectedness. People who do value these qualities are seen as weak and pushed to the margins of society.

First Nations

By contrast, the aboriginal peoples of the world have not lost their reverence for the mother who sustains our life and they are mobilizing to protect her. They have never lost touch with the divine feminine within and this is why it is so hard for them to fit in to western patriarchal culture. We must all seek to find and empower our feminine qualities of empathy and compassion for all living things. We must allow the love of the goddess within to fill us instead of looking to material possessions and status to fill our emptiness. We must exorcise our demons and access the wisdom within if we are to survive. We no longer can afford to go along with the values of the present material culture which is destroying the earth. We are her children, not the slaves of multinational companies.

The Pipelines

It is no accident that the proposed route of the Northern Gateway pipeline and the Keystone XL pipeline traverse aboriginal lands. The native people are believed to be weak and vulnerable having neither wealth nor power. But they are in for a surprise. In Canada First nations have won 170 legal battles against companies who would exploit the land. By law they are required to be consulted and give consent before development goes ahead. The environmentalists need the First nations people because they have no such legal rights. The good news is it's happening and on a world wide basis.

Birth of the Goddess

The Divine Feminine is being re birthed on earth again. And though this birth is accompanied by pain as all births are;when the child is born, the pain is forgotten.
We are feeling the labour pains now and who can tell how long a labour that will be,but we must persevere because the alternative is unthinkable.

The Idle No More Movement is supporting this birth. Won't you come out and support them?

Very meaningful post, C D Moore. The shift in our consciousness is happening (outside the corporate boardrooms!) and may it gather momentum. Corporate greed has also played its part in making women as sexual objects. Woman's wisdom should prevail and I know few who single-handedly brought up families against heavy odds. Our greed is making us go bonkers - to kill the hen that lays the golden egg - our Mother Nature - but she has been forgiving like a kindhearted mother and bending backwards to keep us alive - siva

A very meaningful post. We have gotten away from the feminine side of God and we need to return.
