In Bugg's World...Snow Will happen in Southern Alabama

January 10, 2011, we were blessed with a snow day. We very seldom have snow days in our area, in southern Alabama. Our dog Bugg sure had fun.

SNOW DAY!

I can count on my two hands, just how many times we have been so lucky to get snow in our neck of the woods. That is since I moved here in 1978.

Okay, to be perfectly honest, it is really snow/ice but, it is cold, it is white so to us here in southern Alabama, it is a snow day.

B n B mail room was closed, due to the snowy conditions so, Bugg, Uncle Billy and I decide to give you our official report of our weather conditions.

Actually every thing is closed with one exception, car dealerships. Yes Bugg's daddy had to go to work but, he did sell a car that day. So it worked out.

Bugg went outside earlier at 5 am but, Bugg was not able to really get a good look at all the white stuff, as it was dark. Bugg did his business and back inside, with in 1 minute. So this is Bugg's first time, really seeing it.

I still don't think Bugg is really sure about this white stuff.

I guess I was wrong

As soon as Bugg hits the bottom of the ramp, Bugg takes off running. Bugg runs over to the biggest patch of snow/ice he could find. Bugg smelled it and then tasted it, Bugg loved the taste of this new snow/ice stuff.

While Bugg is eating some snow/ice, let me put this all in perspective on why it is such a big deal for us to have one of our loved ones see snow/ice.

Our dog Max was born in March, it snowed the December before, so Max missed it. It did not snow again, until Max was 11 years old and by this time. Max was blind, so he missed the snow again.

Okay Back to business

My crack team of wanna be meteorologist decided we would take the snow/ice measurements first.

Uncle Billy grabs the snow/ice measuring stick and tries to get it in the ground, so I can take a picture for our official measurement.

Bugg runs over to help, as we all know Bugg is always eager to help.

No! Bugg is not trying to eat the stick, he is just loves helping.

Uncle Billy!

No, Uncle Billy, you have to push it in deeper.

Let me help you, push it in deeper Uncle Billy!

There has to be more than 1/4 of a inch of all this glorious snow/ice.

Come on Uncle Billy we can get it!

There!

See Mommy, I knew we would get it.

The offcial snow/ice measurement (After Bugg pushes the ruler down in the ground) stands at 1/2 inch of snow/ice.

Well this took a bit longer than I thought, my fingers are numb, I no longer know if my legs are attached to the rest of my body, so I decide to let Bugg and Uncle Billy take a break.

Bugg and Uncle Billy walk towards Bugg's Alabama frizzbie.

My Alabama Frizzbie!

Bugg runs towards his Alabama frizzbie and grabs it before Uncle Billy is able to reach it.

I write down our measurement that we have already taken, as we want to keep our records straight.

Bugg runs off with his Alabama frizzbie and Uncle walks towards the side of the house.

Always a Gentleman

Bugg is such a sweet guy, he knows his Alabama frizzbie is cold, so being the nice guy he is, Bugg wants to warm it up for Uncle Billy.

Bugg makes sure that he gets all of his warm saliva on his Alabama frizzbie that he can muster up, before he brings it to Uncle Billy.

Bugg is ready to play! Bugg just needs Uncle Billy to hurry up!

I thought about grabbing my gardening gloves as my fingers were frozen and follow Bugg and Uncle BIlly. I decide against it and I go in the house instead, make a quick cup of tea (It's cold) and head out to the front porch.

You Are the Boss

I go out on the front porch and tell Uncle Billy and Bugg...Action!

Bugg was being such a good boy.

Bugg handed Uncle Billy the frizzbie, just like he is suppose to do.

Uncle Billy makes Bugg sit.

Yes there is cold stuff on the ground but, Bugg still has to obey his commands and before Uncle Billy throws Bugg's Alabama frizzbie, Bugg must sit.

Does Bugg like it?

Well no but, he must do it if he would like to play the game.

Uncle Billy throws it!

Bugg runs after the frizzbie and then Bugg watches as it goes over the fence.

Where is it Uncle BIlly? Uncle Billy points to it.

Why Uncle BIlly, why!

Uncle Billy tries to unlock the fence but, the lock is frozen shut.

That is my cue to bring out another Alabama frizzbie.

Uncle Billy might also be thinking of those gardening gloves at this point.

I tell Uncle Billy to stay with Bugg, I have to unload my photos I have taken and I will be out in a few minutes. With a new Alabama frizzbie.

10 minutes later

I finally make it back outside, with a few more layers of clothing on. Bugg was running around and Uncle Billy looked frozen. I told Uncle Billy to go in and warm up, that I would play with Bugg.

I threw the Alabama frizzbie and it lands by Bugg, he didn't even notice it at first, he was enjoying all this white stuff. Bugg acts as if he is in ice cream heaven.

Bugg is so excited!

Then Bugg sees his frizzbie

By the time my frozen feet were able to make it down to Bugg's Alabama frizzbie.

Bugg was standing on it.

I knew what Bugg wanted to play right, then and there. No way, was I going to play that game, not me!

I was not going to play 'watch Mommy chase me' with Bugg today.

I was frozen from the waist down at this point.

Either my ears have fallen off or it is just too darn cold and I can't feel them on the sides of my head.

As I walk closer

Bugg took his paw off of his Alabama frizzbie and looked at me, as if to say, okay lets play your game.

As I walk towards Bugg.

Bugg takes off running.

Bugg is not playing the game as it should be played, so I turn my back away from Bugg and ignore him.

Wrong Answer!

Okay, if Bugg does not want to play my game, then I am just not going to play.

Bugg notices I am ignoring him, as I head towards the side of the house. Bugg runs after me.

I still do not feel Bugg has learned his lesson, so I turn the other way and go back towards the bench.

Bugg knows he is in trouble now.

Mommy is not happy with him.

I'm Sorry!

Bugg really does seem like he is sorry for being a bad boy. I think Bugg has learned his lesson.

I bend down to grab his Alabama frizzbie, so I can play with Bugg and you guessed it...

Bugg takes off running, again!

Buggah!

I will not fall for this trap, not again.

I do not care how sad Bugg looks at me.

Bugg runs by me, with no cares in the world.

I figure why rock the boat, Bugg is happy, so I will just take pictures of him playing in the snow.

Brrrrr, Time to go Inside

Bugg comes running towards me as fast as he can. Bugg is in absolute dog heaven at this moment.

Bugg looks like he is floating in air.

I say the heck with Air Jordan, how about Air Bugg.

Hmmm, Cold?

With our official measurement (Ruler) instrument, we have concluded that we have 1/2 inch of snow/ice.

I have been outside for 30 minutes, I no longer know what is connected to my body or not, at this point.

So by my calculations, the temperature is, it is cold, very darn cold!

Will Uncle Billy, Bugg's daddy or I take Bugg outside again, in these conditions...

Of course we will, as you all know...

It's a Bugg's world!

It's Still a Bugg's World! I'm just Glad the Dog lets Us In.
It's Not the end of Bugg's World, its Just The End of a Dog Day.

To learn more about the Alabama frizzbie, please take a look another look at this fun Dog Game.

I suggest you gather all the information you can get your hands on, so you will know all you can about your puppy. Not too many years ago, I learned a new thing about dogs and that is a condition know as bloating. Please take the time to read my article on this subject.

You, and Bugg, havent seen cold until you've been through what me and my critters went through.
It was -25C for at least 2 weeks here, very much below normals even for Alberta. That would be -13F and we have over 1 foot of snow.

Yugasini,Hey! You are only able to place one photo in each section. So to add more pictures, you just have to add a section for each photo you want to download. When you have your article in draft. I hope that helps.
Thank you for stopping by.:)

Welcome back Denise. Cold? Snow? Ice? I've ha four feet of freshly fallen snow over the last two days and it's still snowing. My anemometer tells me there's a 35MPH breeze blowing up here this morning. The outdoor digital thermometer tells me that it's 10 degrees which puts he wind chill down around -14 degrees.

Excellent article, I really love the pictures too. Bugg is just so cute! He looks very healthy too, and happy :D It's actually quite warm here at the moment, heather flies out and a chick was born (a small garden bird, rather than a hen). It didn't survive, as it's just not quite warm enough for that, but I do fear more real cold weather is on the way.
Great article, well worth the star :D

Awww green, sorry about the chick. I once accidently hurt a new born kitten when it was stuck in its mama and it died. I cried for weeks. so sad. Girl, it has not been this flippin cold in eons. We go in about a 10 or so year cycle on this kind of winter around these parts. Hon I rarely use our heat at this time of the year, maybe a few days but, it has been used now for the last 1 1/2 months and today is freezing also. This is usually our cheap utility months, UGH!LOL
I hope for you very sunny filled days. Thank you for your kind words and as always, for stopping by.:)

Angel, It is all in the editing. If I wrote like I speak, it would be just down right awful. This page took me 1 day of shooting and then writing and changing for a few days and then in the editing process. I took Bugg outside for just a few minutes. When I came back, I had lost the whole darn thing. I had to do it over. I had already known my story and photos so it was not as difficult this time. You just have to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Heck sometimes I have a typo, I missed and also the moderator has missed. I have fixed all but 1. Which I tend to do. Also I think I give a straight approach in my article 'How to write a good on-line article, also catch a star on wikinut'. I am not doing it to just have you give me another hit, I promise. If you go link by link, go read and look at the article of others then backspace and then hit the next link, you will have seen whom I learned from. I say read all you can,pay attention to how they format, how they pretty it up basically. I have read your stuff, you can do it, I just know it. Thank you for stopping by.:)

Shoot living in Pa. you sure did. I have relatives in Mass. and darn I remember the few times we were so pirvileged to visit, the snow was just huge! Being in the south, you know this is just not our norm. The first snow/ice we had on Christmas day was just a some what dusting. Bugg did have a good time though this time it snowed. Thank you for taking the time and visiting Bugg and I.:)
