Solar power is generally produced from small local sources or large central stations on land or satellites.

Power shortage in big cities

The main cause of increasing consumption of energy sources is the establishment of commercial houses in urban areas. They use electricity, and petroleum products for their routine work. Therefore, there are power cuts, and power shortage in big cities.

Solar technology does not make significant emissions to the environment during operation

Solar power is generally produced from small local sources or large central stations on land or satellites. Unlike fossil fuel technology, solar technology does not make significant emissions to the environment during operation. The large fraction of potential effects on health of the installation, operation discontinuing of solar technology are likely to be associated with the massive extraction of materials and construction required to build solar energy systems. Land based solar voltaic technology requires large collection areas per unit of installed capacity.

Advantages of solar power

The following are some advantages of solar power.
1. it can feed remote areas where grid power is impossible
2. solar cookers are useful for cooking, sterilizing water, baking and frying
3. it provides low -grade thermal energy for heating homes and office
4. it also provides medium grade thermal energy for running some industrial processes
5. it also provides high grade thermal energy for driving turbines to generate electricity

In South Africa the goverment/eskom provides a subsidy to those who use solar power for their geysers. With the ever rising costs of electricity solar power has become a must.
