Limousines Cars are essentially luxury and feature loaded sedans that are designed as per the specific requirements of a customer. The wheelbase of the vehicle is lengthened to get more passenger space and they are normally fitted with gadgets like Refrigerator, sofa sets, LCD and entertainment system, mini bars, Pantry etc. The interiors are customized to the specific requirements of the customers. Limousines are an expensive and luxurious mode of transport that takes the standard of car travel to new heights by providing effortless performance and supreme comfort.
In view of the unique and luxurious nature of the vehicle, Limousines are normally fitted with additional security features like armoring as well as bulletproof glasses. The fittings are military grade armours, leak-proof fuel tank to prevent explosions, firefighting systems etc. The limousine is designed such that the body is divided into two compartments, one for the driver and the other for the passenger. The passenger compartment, often soundproof, usually has a sliding glass window to separate the chauffeur’s compartment. There are two versions of the Limousines, one with a removable or folding roof section over the rear passenger seat and the other with a similar arrangement over the driver’s seat.
The ownership of Limousines is restricted to wealthy individuals and organizations. They are used by government organizations to transport senior politicians and by large organizations to transport top management executives. However, most limousines operate as livery vehicles, providing up-market competition to taxicabs. The price of a limousine ranges from US $ 30000 upwards depending on the customization of the vehicle.
Different countries have different requirements with regard to Limousine drivers’ license. In the US, a specific test needs to be passed for obtaining a license. In some countries, the drivers may need a specific license to carry large number of people. In Europe, there are three categories of driving licenses, B, C1 and D1. If the vehicle weighs less than 3500 kg and carries up to 8 passengers, one requires a category B driving license. If the vehicle weighs less than 7500 kg and carries up to 8 passengers, one requires a category C1 license and a category D1 license is required if the vehicle carries 16 or more passengers.
According to estimates, the size of the US Limousine market was to the tune of US $ 4 billion in the year 2012. There were more than 4000 Limousine companies in the US employing around 42000 people.
The Indian Limousine market is currently pegged at around Rs. 250 crores with a fleet of 1000 vehicles. The service is popular with corporate chief executives, foreign delegates as well as embassy staff. Additionally, limousines are also hired for weddings, parties and other festivals and this is gaining ground steadily and surely. The Limousine market is expected to touch Rs 1000 crores with a fleet of 3000 vehicles by the year 2015.

Very tough subject to write upon and I suppose there are limousines without bullet proofing.

The recent tragedy of a limo burning up in Northern California was tragic. It had soundproofing and the driver though the people were smoking! They only violated the law by having one too many people but the fire was pretty deadly.
